Court is outstanding, but Wake is just a lazy rehash
I wonder what the thought process behind it was
>hey that was good, we'll do the exact same thing again and we're sure to be succesful
you kind of lose a little appreciation for them afterwards

A lot of bands signed to labels had really weak sophmore releases because the label would push them to churn out a new album ASAP if the first was a success of any kind. Wake was released 7 months after Court. They had to tour, write and record an entire new album to follow up Court in that time all while the band was crumbling apart . I think they did pretty well when you consider the context, Picture of a City, Peace, Cadence and Cascade, Cat Food are great songs.

Sorry, as much as I appreciate these guys, Magma runs circles around them and it's not even a contest. Honestly don't know what would compel you to say this other than being a contrarian. You wouldn't have Koenjihyakkei without Magma.

I like Gentle Giant. Have several of their T-shirts. I really like Free Hand, Octopus, Power and the Glory. Shame they couldn't survive the late 70's and the pressure of the trends of that time.
These guys thought a lot about their music.
