Aphex Twin & the other 2 big IDM acts might be the only meme artists shilled on this board that are actually good. Really good album pick OP. This is his shrooms album - and the piano composition at the end is gorgeous. Have you heard the bonus track for this record? It's worth a listen:

Are his other albums associated with specific drugs too? If so, I’d love to know what correlates with drukqs. That album is schizo lol

I think it's really funny that for all of Aphex Twin's output, literally none of it even touches Boards of Canada's absolute worst material. Lmao

yeah. i mean "feeling" was absolutely out of the conversation, thats for masterpieces, but i expected to be at least interested from a sound design perspective but nope.

>"OP: Man I love this artist/album"
>Someone literally every time: "It's shit and you should listen to MY goat instead"
This board fucking sucks. What if I fucking like both Aphex and BoC at the same time? Can you even comprehend liking multiple similar artists at the same time? I also love Squarepusher and Plaid. That's four legendary idm acts I enjoy at the same time. If I listened to U-ziq they'd probably also be up there. And if not, I doubt I'd spend my opinion cultivating a pretentious opinions I can post whenever I see someone talking about them online just to bring others who like nearly the same music I do down.

Fantastic record. Final track is amazing, I love his few piano tunes so much. They're beautiful. Also, the ending 45-1 minute of the title track is one of my favorite moments in his discog. The ambient synth layer that pops up feels like surfing through clouds. There's a lot of incredible moments on this record. Severely underrated in the grand scheme of his work, although he did win a grammy for this.

He said ages ago that he has a ton of unreleased stuff from way back, that’s what Spyro and analord sounded like to me. don’t you think it’s weird that he never uses people or musicians playing except him on piano or keys even in sample form? There’s walls around his world containing the coldness

he also said syro includes a handful of tracks as recent as 6 months prior to release. the ones he never played live, which is half the album. analord was all new material for its time, he said so in interviews. fans discovered his ebay used to buy a ton of analogue gear before it. you’re weird if you think music made with a computer is weird in 2025. you’re a retard on many levels

I’m not weird about computer music, you are in fact weird. Computer music is generally worse compared with music performed by musicians. Analord especially sounds like it’s done using old sounds, even if he had made it recently it’s irrelevant.

The contrast of computer and real music elucidates more about humanity and the underlying fabric of the universe actually.

For example, in Aphex Twin’s fast beat music, he’ll often stick strictly to a consistent BPM, it’s too hard to mimic the ebb and flow of a live drummer, takes too much CPU /memory. That’s one of the many factors that gives it that fake / cold /artificial / inhuman feeling. in nature there are few straight lines but there are many in his music.

Only people on drugs really like computer music, but they’ll like anything you put in front of them.

I typed up a whole thing calling you retarded before realizing you actually don't know anything about music or music theory in the first place as evident by your own words. You're either baiting really well or actually crazy and ignorant.

Either way, please just don't open threads about music you don't like.

This was my first Aphex Twin album back when it came out in 2014 and it hooked me. And while it’s not my absolute favourite of his albums anymore, I still enjoy it a lot. It’s like others have already said: This is his most “pop” album. And that’s cool. It’s catchy and groovy, but still unmistakably Aphex Twin.
