I mean, I'm not asking for someone like Bob Dylan or whatever, but I feel like most bands I listen to have 2-3 good records max, and a bunch of passable material outside of that. Some bands that I think do have great discographies with a lot of good albums are ween, Modest Mouse, and Radiohead. You can probably tell that I'm pretty into alt-rock, but I can listen to most genres pretty fine. Please don't try to avoid a rec if you think they're a "basic" artist, I don't know half of the guys you talk about on this website lmao.

My only advice if you're doing an entire band's discography is to actively think about what one album is doing to evolve or experiment their sound compared to those before it.

XTC is honestly the most fun I've had with an artists discography.

Already listened to them, pretty amazing though. Perfect answer.

Never heard of these guys, thanks

I try to be adventurous! I can listen to almost anything I think. I tried Merzbow though, that's just unlistenable. Thanks for the rec.

Thanks for the recs to everyone else, it's marking my post as spam so I can't individually thank you all.

I feel ya man. I think Radiohead is a super apparent example of this. Seeing them go from pretty basic alt-rock to awesome experimental indietronica type stuff is a wild ride. Thanks for the advice

I'll take "extensive discography" to mean ">10 albums".
King Crimson
The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Of Montreal
Bone Thugs N Harmony
Todd Rundgren
David Bowie

I've done all their discographies and they actively, at most, have less than 10% of their albums as bad or even neutral. King Crimson and Bone Thugs don't have a single bad album imo

Oh yeah also seconding them. Some of their late 90's/2000's stuff is unremarkable but their original 80's run is untouchably good
