How come everyone loves watching a pianist or violinist play an extremely difficult piece, yet guitar shredding is seen as cringe and nerdy?

the people that think guitar shredding is cringe are the same people who think show-offy pianists playing difficult pieces are cringe (in /classical/ that's referred to as "virtuososlop")
however, I do believe classical can get away with style-over-substance more, because people who know nothing about it have been socially conditioned into respecting it anyway, while with guitar oriented music they can just say they think it sucks without fear of sounding stupid
