Terry Reid is dead. What were his best songs, /mu/?

>Terry Reid, the guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist whose emotive singing style led gave him the moniker “Superlungs,” has died at 75, following a battle with cancer.

>Determined to forge his own path, Reid famously turned down an offer by Jimmy Page to become the lead vocalist of the band that would evolve into Led Zeppelin, as well as an offer from Ritchie Blackmore to become Deep Purple's frontman. However, he was much more than that – in 1968, Aretha Franklin stated that the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Terry Reid were the best talents England had to offer.

>His career included extensive tours with the Stones, Cream, Jethro Tull, and Fleetwood Mac – the Isle of Wight Festival in 1969 and Glastonbury in 1970, as well as numerous collaborations with Graham Nash, a catalog of seven studio albums, session work with the likes of Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt, and songs he penned that featured in movies such as Up in the Air and The Devil’s Rejects.

I knew about the Zeppelin and Purple thing, though truth be told the only thing I know about his own music is that Cheap Trick covered one of his songs on their first album. It's a good one, will have to listen to the original right now.

Led Zeppelin would've been better with him instead of Plant.

Sounds like a mix of folk, yacht and heartland rock like hundreds of other bands and artists in the early 70s.

All of the songs used in The Devil's Rejects are 10/10 folk rock bangers. Just insanely high tier dusty boomer hippie shit. This man clears almost every folk artist in existence for that alone.

"Seed of Memory" might even be a top-25 song all time for me

RIP

I mean, you're not that far off. Without any real deep inspection, he was a fairly run-of-the-mill bluesy folk rock guy from England.

But something like "To Be Treated Rite" sounds like if prime Neil Young swallowed some sort of potion to make his voice sound like a transient homeless angel. It's one of the most beautiful things my ears have ever heard, to be quite honest.

I've been listening to the same 4-5 Terry Reid songs almost daily for roughly 20 years. This shit hurts, a lot.

one of the very best technical songwriters of his day, man. right up there with rory gallagher. i'll always love his seed of memory album, and faith to arise is an all timer of a tune. watch covers of the song to get an even better appreciation for it.
such a shame that he can't get a sticky on this shitty ass board, but what else is to be expected from this place in current year.
