No Dead thread? Let's fix that. I've been jamming Bear's Choice/Dick's Picks Vol. #4 a lot lately – how bout you? NRPS/Allman Bros/Old&IntheWay/any other related discussion, etc. welcome ITT.

Why do people listen to this band? I have spent thousands of hours listening to this band. What's the deal? Why do people listen to this band? They're all I listen to. Can somebody please help me? Why do people listen to this band? I will never move on. I'll ask this question every time I see them mentioned and spend the rest of my life listening exclusively to them and being mad. What's the le heckin' deal?

Mars Hotel came out in 74 and that's among their best studio work. Surprised it almost never gets mentioned when people ask for entry level Dead rec's.

Ignore him. '73 and '74 are their best years by quite a large margin. I would argue that everything they played from 1976 through 1995 was an attempt to recapture the energy that they had in those years. Those shows are the sound of pure creative freedom.

I'm serious. Acid rock and folk Dead was the best Dead. I don't mind if you disagree by the way, idk what you're getting so defensive over when it's just my opinion.

But besides that, if you think there's some profound collapse in the quality of playing from '73 going into '74, or that those years aren't, at a bare minimum, the acme of the single-drummer era, I'm baffled. They're remarkably tight, not tied to keeping Bill and Mickey locked together through a jam, and executing an even larger songbook than '72.

Yeah lmao my bad. I was being a bit hyperbolic. And yeah ok, it's Blues From Allah that I specifically really hate, but I'd rather hear all those songs from Flood/Mars Hotel/Terrapin live anyways.
