Why is there no new /mu/core? How come?
No, it's not that "new music sucks", we all know the issue is more complex than that.

>Why is there no new /mu/core?
but there is. /mu/core is that selection of music overwhelmingly popular with a majority of posters. the only difference is that people dont use essentials charts any more since The Algorithm finds and picks their music for them.
the new /mu/core is Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, kpop and jpop.
maybe not the answer you want but its undeniably the truth

two reasons.
first, like I said, the vast majority now listen to music via a streaming service which suggests/supplies music to them so they don’t need charts to find new things to listen to. Spotify plays stuff to them automatically.
second, they’re all listening to Top40 popslop anyway so the music industry marketing machine informs them about music. they dont do personal searching/exploration for music any more. a /nu-mu/core chart would be full of the faces that are in the media 24/7. I mean, imagine it:
>hey /mu/ I really like Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo can you suggest any other artists I should check out
>sure, Anon, you should listen to Sabrina Carpenter
its completely redundant

the difference being before stuff got shilled out of genuine love and passion for music where as today the stuff that gets shilled is backed by major record labels advertising their product. this shit is not organic, has constant pushback from /mu/tants, and the people who are into poptimism have zero interest in music outside of current thing

you fags all listen to top40s shit unironically
theres no point
if you want more bad pop shit you not only have the rest of the billboard, but now you have several other entire cunts with their own self-contained top40s bullshit in korea, japan, etc

>we have to do something about this
WE dont
everyone else does
but go try to tell the kpop gooners to find a new band thats not gookbabblecore. they wont do it. theyre not interested.

the obv solution is a board split for bad pop music vs everything else. but everyones too pussy to make the leap and will start bitching about
>muh slow board even slower
this isnt a fucking discord. no one outside the most internet addicted faggots needs that shit. and the slower threads that last for wks instead of days would lend themselves to much better discussion.
and in either case itd be worth it just to never see another thread about generic blonde popthot #9001, or some arr rook same idol troupe from worst korea

There's no spirit of joyful sharing of your discoveries on /mu/ anymore. Why effortpost about my favorite, neglected artists to get 0 replies or a few scattered off-topic ad hom replies? The baseline /mu/tant is a resentful pleb who will screech and derail any attempt to discuss music they don't already like. Every good faith discussion of a lesser-known artist devolves into some fag digging through years of their social media posts until they find something about politics they can screencap

/mu/'s culture has drastically changed since the days of /mu/core. It was much more holistic back then, most of the entire board was on the same page with the occasional general. Now it feels way more insular and fragmented, it's like half generals now if not more and breaking that mold of discussion is a surefire way for your thread to die. Nothing breaks or unites this board the way it did 15, or even 10 years ago.

It's a combination of this and 4chan being too big and old now for there to be a consensus on anything. Election tourists diluted the culture of most boards and no one agrees on or is sincere about anything anymore. The days of there being a solid "/mu/core" are long gone, that's why there hasn't been a new chart since like 2012.

False (for proof, independent and small-label extreme metal has been great lately), though I couldn't tell you what or where the good neo-/mu/core is.

Those dancers who happen to sing are propped up by a mix of literal paid shills and obsessive troglodytes who shill them for free. God knows which is worse.
Even if it were all genuine, they're not /mu/core in spirit, and anyone with a lick of sense understands that intuitively. They are not community-loved artists in the way NMH or Death Grips were, love those acts or hate them.
The only part you're right about is streaming algorithms and website rankings making charts and person-to-person recommendations less important for a lot of people. I try to do both, but not as many /mu/ posters are interested in discussion or sharing now.

if you need people to recommend you new music that doesn't suck then you already failed. If you actually *wanted* to like anything new then you would listen to new music instead of just complaining.
Why don't you post something, anything, that doesn't suck and then I can tell you it sucks. It's that simple, just admit you don't put in any effort and don't even want to try. There is sooooo much great music out there

That'll happen for as long as the artists and listeners of popular music have its entire history at arms length. I don't know what can be done to stop that. I guess you can use the internet's deluge of information to your advantage and find ways to filter it down to all of the music that's (hopefully) good.
What have you been recommended that was so uninspired?

Please explain. To me it's kind of similar to death grips, with basic pop rhythm and assertive screechiness, lots of great hooks and quick movement between sections and such, but it gets 1/10th the conversation that death grips got back in the day, even accounting for the drop in traffic. No hype comparitively

Maybe people think it's too close to the usual popslut stuff?

That has been the case for many years sadly, I have just popped in for the first time in years and while some might say its worse, it's really not. The last time I remember real exploration was when Hampus and that old trip used to do the 'world music' threads for trad folk through the alphabet.
