False (for proof, independent and small-label extreme metal has been great lately), though I couldn't tell you what or where the good neo-/mu/core is.

Those dancers who happen to sing are propped up by a mix of literal paid shills and obsessive troglodytes who shill them for free. God knows which is worse.
Even if it were all genuine, they're not /mu/core in spirit, and anyone with a lick of sense understands that intuitively. They are not community-loved artists in the way NMH or Death Grips were, love those acts or hate them.
The only part you're right about is streaming algorithms and website rankings making charts and person-to-person recommendations less important for a lot of people. I try to do both, but not as many /mu/ posters are interested in discussion or sharing now.
