KPOP 19% decrease compared to the previous year.
>The Circle Chart, operated by the Korea Music Content Association, announced that total sales of the top 400 physical albums reached 93.3 million copies, a 19% decrease compared to the previous year. This marks the first decline since 2014.

>The top three export destinations were Japan ($89.8 million), the United States ($60.29 million), and China ($59.79 million), accounting for 72.8% of the total. Japan decreased by 24.7%.

Why have people stopped listening to it?

No one ever "listened" to K-pop physical albums, those sales are driven by Chinese and SEA fans bulk buying their favorite groups releases to manipulate the charts.

they make music? i thought they were just paraded around as goonbait for deranged losers. i've never seen a single piece of music being discussed in any of the dozen generals that plague this board.

kpoop sucks first of all. Second, its hit the wall in how it can market itself, the only demographics that like it are fat girls who write bad fan fiction and coomers who post in kpop general. Normies want nothing to do with it.

normal fags listen to rap, wpop, country, and rock/metal.

kpoop got big by copying black people music like rap and r and b. but there has been a shift towards country music, the one genre they could never rip off

i believe kpop export was carried by BTS and blackpink, both of which went on hiatus, aged (just like their audience), or basically quit since around covid. other big groups that lagged behind them are also aging. with boygroups in particular its tricky because they typically need a replacement group for a young audience, i cant even imagine how to market that.
also Newjeans was getting very popular with a somewhat new direction music-wise and might have revived kpop but got destroyed due to internal company politics.

ive seen kpop go around on normie sites through memes and the like and people comment that they like XYZ kpop but dont let anyone know, its like anime before it became normieslop.

what date is that article from, can't find it

besides other things it might just be leveling off from a temporary covid era peak when a lot of people in lockdown found/collected kpop with nothing else to do or spend money on
i don't think a decline in physical sales which are essentially collectibles necessarily means people are listening less though

it has had its normie summer and it will go back to a niche fringe genre.
>BTS dead
>blackpink dead
>new jeans dead
all other big 3(4) groups and idols are irrelevant. there is nothing interesting about it, the current sound sucks, it isn't cool or new. you can pay $50k to have your group sing a song on Good Morning America so it is another mainstream curiosity.
until an actual new group comes along it is in a slow slide back to Seoul.
plus LSM has used his Rothschild connections to make his chinese groups the next hot ticket and is currently "promoting" the first batch around LA exec offices. LSM rules all despite his banishment.

This. I recently went back and looked at some of the songs released in the 2015-2020 period and 2020+ quality fell off a cliff. They've gone too far chasing the American Market with sexy concepts and all songs are from American producers now

>and all songs are from American producers now
this is true, there used to be prominent korean producers/teams with their own signature sounds that made groups stand out, even the SM groups with slick foreign production stood out for that because everyone else wasn't doing the same
seems a lot of korean production teams either fell off, fell out of favor with companies or died and now the song selection is a lot more interchangeable/anonymous

That's because it's confined to generals. There's a lot of good music talk to be had, as happens on other sites, but it just can't happen here as is.

Who gives a shit about physical album sales? Relying on slavish fans buying up big stacks of plastic to build their shrines is such a sad business model. Lots of great genuine Kpop being put out now if you put in a bit of effort to look past the biggest groups.
>>127656789
Yes it's getting bad with the big groups. A bit of English is always part of Kpop but it's getting more dominant and the lyrics themselves are often the same edgy subversive shit the USA puts out.
