Call me woke, but I do believe XXXtensioncord’s popularity is what inadvertently lead to the rise in Gen Z conservatism.
X was frequently lambasted for being a wifebeater, misogynist, homophobe, New Age woo believer, social conservative (he spoke out against anti-racist activists), and pretentious asshole. The mainstream media didn’t want to touch him because he was too controversial. Yet, the more he was “cancelled” and despised for all his ills, the more it added to his allure among zoomers. X’s image was that of a deeply disturbed troubled genius whose pain and anger lead him to violence and nihilism. He was cold and cruel but that’s exactly what made him so appealing as a rapper to begin with.
This, I believe, was the gateway drug that turned a lot of zoomers (in particular, zoomer men) into far-right conservatives and fascists. All those zoomers who were listening to X back in 2017-18 while in middle school or high school voted for Trump in last year’s election. They are the same people who listen to Joe Rogan, Andrew Tate, and Jordan Peterson. It’s identical to how all the Gen X nonconformists who idolizes Kurt Cobain went on to become a Big Tech innovators or how millennials who spent their teen years listening to emo rock ended up becoming SJWs (since the essence of emo music is trauma and mental illness/neurodivergence). It’s all because X was cancelled time and time again before he was clout martyred, then smeared over and over again after death. Zoomers who loves him saw that and began internalizing X’s persona as well as resentment towards a morally-obsessive cancel culture.
It makes perfect sense once you think about it.

Haven't listened to XXX but people are deeply magnetized to work that is vulnerable and honest because they can relate to it.
If you are an artist that can touch a lot of people by singing about your disenchantment with society (a feeling that is almost universal right now no matter your political alignment).
If you sing about depression, anxiety and anger in an honest and evoking way, kids will be drawn to it because it speaks to how they feel, but they may not feel the pressure to reject an artist who has serious issues like that.
So they end up relating to a violent wifebeating homophobe because like XXX kids do not understand where their anger and pain is coming from and that you can't go around bashing in skulls to deal with it. They become defensive when he is criticized because they feel like they are being criticized, too, since they relate to his music so much.
Same with politics. People are distrusting of the government so they look to people like Joe Rogan, the reflection of your average down-to-earth guy because he speaks in their voice. He sits down at the table with you, appearing pragmatic and fair, the same way right-wingers present themselves as sensible voices of the people in the face of screeching leftists.
In reality Joe Rogan is very dogmatic. His audience is not cool and dignified, it's reactive and afraid to be criticized. They are afraid of being labelled a racist and cancelled for making an honest mistake.
It's easy to overlook that "being cancelled" is almost entirely in your hands. You can just own up to your shit and apologize because if you are genuine and thoughtful a lot of people will forgive you, but no one can forgive XXX for something he never apologized for.
The reality is that it's easier to dig in your heels, make a Youtube channel about how attacked you feel, and rake in money from new subscribers while deflecting blame.
