More of a Miles Davis man myself. But Coltrane is cool.

I can't get into jazz. Unironically, is my IQ too low? I can enjoy a lot of classical so I would have thought I'd be smart enough for jazz, but maybe not.

welcome on transition is a vibe https://youtu.be/jMKQSrAd0nM. what inspired him to create that? did he just get a new kid or something like that?

listening to more of it helps. keep exploring until you find something that gets its hooks into you. are you good with languages? because its a language. a lot of coltranes language is pretty advanced but despite that its not too hard to appreciate a lot of his playing, he was a gifted communicator really. thats what i feel like the great jazz masters are

There's a lot of accessible stuff out there, if you're diving into a lot of Blue Note classic albums that stuff is mainly hardbop and modal. Maybe swing or big band or bebop ballads would be better?

Listen to Trane's My Favorite Things, the studio version. Or the Ballads albums. They're very accessible

my favorite things is entry level jazz but is considered one of his best works for good reason. also borders on when he went full artfag, so you get just a tinge of weirdness in a good way

Actually I think that at his best Sonny is better than John.
Otherwise Coltrane's output is more consistent.

good post. the piano on that album is very tranquil so it can be a great thing to focus on if the sax is too much
