It's my birthday today!

Please post weird, experimental, avant-garde stuff, could be contemporary classical, noise, free improvisation, electroacoustic stuff, stuff with odd instrumentation, noisy stuff, very quiet stuff, basically anything that's unique and unusual!

Thanks for contributing, anon! Listened to the first one, it's a little too conventional, sounds like some progressive video game music, not exactly what i had in my mind for the thread, but i'll listen to the full album later. Thank you.

The first track is deceiving, it gets a lot less conventional fast.

>electroacoustic stuff

https://erstwhilerecords.bandcamp.com/album/good-morning-good-night

Also:
alva noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto - Vrioon
alva noto - Prototypes

Not sure how surface level these are for electroacoustic but I like them.

Niobe's early discog, especially Radioersatz and Voodoolooba
Nurse With Wound, try Gyllensköld, Geijerstam and I at Rydberg's if you want something a bit weird and unsettling
maybe youd like a compilation called Early Modulations - Vintage Volts which is a collection of early electronic music by various composers including Xenakis and Cage
and <that album of Birtwistle's chamber music is really nice

Not a lot of people realize just how utterly strange and singular martin rev and alan vega's music managed to get as they continued to move further in their solo careers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCwZd13TISk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvo4Dc8m7VY
Take this as proof that you can keep your soul alive and lively no matter how old you might get. Alan must have been in his mid 60s when he made the track above.

Nice, i like Otomo a lot but didn't know this one in particular.

>>127786179
Not a fan of Gong at all.
That Masonna album i've had saved for so long, i've only seen videos of him, i like it that it's all vocal based.
Saved the other two.

>>127786358
I know Nancarrow, love his stuff. Saw an interview where Zappa was talking about he wanted Nacarrow to get into the synclavier, because he would be able to do even more.
Also know Mats/Morgan, like some of their stuff, but most of it is too jazz fusion for my tastes.
Saved the other one.

>>127786437
Saved.

>>127786485
Saved.

>>127786715
Not interested in rap at all, but thanks.

>>127787012
Love Larks, Jamie Muir was the man, i even did a little percussion improv in his honour when he died.
That Zappa piece is great but the LSO performance is not the best of it, don't like those albums much.
I wish EN still sounded that industrial, their last album sucked and was way too long.
Wouldn't really call that Soft Machine track free improvisation, but that album is very good, yes.
I love bassoons, but i was thinking something that was written FOR odd instrumentation, plus just a bunch of bassoons is not really an odd combination of instruments, which is more what i meant by "odd instrumentation".
Saved the rest.

This post is more for a bump, haven't listened to most of the stuff yet.

That's fair, I was reconsidering changing that track out last minute for this one.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFweessJ4L8
You can also tell I don't really do contemporary classical (that track was incidental as part of Zappa's full discography run) or free improvisation (was gonna link Trio but I already posted KC so I didn't want to doublepost a band and look like a stan because King Crimson is my favorite band)

I made a thread about old underground aussie music not too long ago and another anon compiled a youtube playlist of stuff posted in that thread. I recommend more than half of these bands and a lot of them meet your description

Listened to a handful of the shorter ones, it's all pretty much just garage rock, though some of it is nice like Oh Belgium.

>>127788580
Is that finnish gypsy music? Quite nice and lively.
An i love Trio, it's one of my favourite Crimson pieces, it builds up in such a lovely way and then just floats there until it dissipates. It's also a testament to how musical a drummer Bill Bruford is, he knows when to shut the fuck up.

>>127787012
Don't know what you find unusual about the Mellow Candle track, sounds very typical of its time to me.
Cluster was very nice, just slowly picking up and building.
Apples in Stereo is just a standard rock tune with some noisy bits sprinkled in, didn't care for it at all.
White Noise is more like it but it too is too rhythmically straight.

>>127786437
This is just electronic dance music, sounds just like a radio hit from the past decade. Didn't like it at all.

>>127786485
The Martin Rev one had the most uninteresting beat going on the whole time. The Alan Vega one was great, gonna look into his albums. Thanks anon.

lol this is 90% avant-garde noise or musique concrete but the second track is some weird vocoder version of A Bicycle Built For Two. Some of the other stuff is interesting though.

Thanks!

Your first one says "video unavailable". Your second one is fantastic, immediately saved the album on bandcamp after. The third one is interesting but i just did not like the sounds chosen.
