He was never a gangsta. Eazy E was the only true wild dude in the streets selling drugs, breaking into homes, and apart of a gang. The rest were larpers but since they were black, suburban white america who had never even heard of compton or had zero clue there were gangs, thugs, criminals, were all shocked and thought they were all dangerous.
Eazy E bought a chevy impala at 13 with all the money he was making selling drugs. Ice Cube was studying for some degree, considered studying for another one, but dropped out or never went to college because he got involved with NWA instead.
Dre also played the gangster but he wasn't actually living that lifestyle

I agree that he never was tough in the general sense, but IMO he absolutely is the real one with the attitude. Not afraid to call out jews, doesn't let lefties completely get inside his head, seems to care about people around him. Once you're a grown man you're not afraid to do things for kids like making silly movies, remember he's not merely an actor for the movies, he produces them. He also made Big 3. So unlike wannabe gangsters, he owns a lot of things around himself and sets the actual rules.

So yeah, he's cool in my book despite all his biases, nice to see him still make music occasionally.

Not a single "Compton" fag was a gangster save from Easy E. All of them literally just used him, his money, his street cred as actual gangster, to get rich and famous themselves. Once they got that, he was no longer desirable so they cut him off.
Technically they won in terms of still being alive (Easy E died from AIDS) and being richer than ever, but at the same time... all of them became a joke.

What bottom? Out of NWA crew he had probably the most privileged life. From having functional parents with ok jobs, to having easy life himself and doing well in school. Ice Cube had the most boring normal life that you could imagine since very start. Zero trauma. Zero struggles. Zero anything that would make you shed a tear for him of "look how far he made it from the bottom" when you look at him. He was a lucky kid, lucky to have a normal family, lucky to have had normal childhood in general, that just got even luckier in life in the future by getting rich.

Every rapper tried to make movies, most just aren't very good at it. Ice Cube has natural screen presence that was apparent immediately. Also these guys aren't punk rockers, they don't conceptualize selling out the same way. Every rapper would've had Ice's movie career if they could, they just weren't good enough.

Don't take me wrong. There is nothing wrong with having a normal life, and coming from a normal family. Just that (as one anon said), out of NWA, he had the easiest run in his life, yet he tried to make himself seem otherwise. Dre wasn't a gangster either, but Dre actually did experience everything that came from being from Compton by being directly exposed to these things. IC? Nope. He is that one spoilt brat of the group that hasn't experienced a thing that was bad in his life, yet he tried crying on his mic about so-called hard life.

If Dre was insulted as a "studio rapper" back then, then IC was way worse. Not only was he a studio rapper himself, but he was equivalent of Elon Musk's kid trying to be "relatable" to average person.

He lived in LA close to Hollywood and Hollywood producers didn't discriminate on who they brought on back then. The irony is that if he were born today he'd likely never be able to land a modern role

It's the same with music too, I remember watching an interview with Noel Gallagher of Oasis, and he said the problem with modern music is that labels are too afraid to bring on what he described as "Mavericks" or truly hardened people who weren't afraid of taking drugs telling their producers off and getting into trouble. He said these people still exist in the music industry, but they aren't mainstream anymore because labels are too afraid to push them to the mainstream. He compared older bands to acts like Harry Styles, who in Noels words just did whatever his label told him to do.
