This album is metal, and I won't pretend like it isn't any longer. Slipknot should be included in The Metal Archives based on this album. Whoever says otherwise has never listened to it, has a hateboner for this band, or both.

This is my favorite Slipknot record, it's like a buffet of everything they had to offer before losing the most important songwriters. I don't care about the first track, Snuff and Psychosocial though.

It's actually their best record and definitely metal. The title track is underrated. Very thrashy. Corey sounds like Phil Anselmo in it.

Metal-archives is for turbo nerds but Slipknot isn't any more metal than any of the other adjacent "nu metal" bands that they already don't allow. Just because your radio buttrock is played by guys in scary masks who yell sometimes doesn't make it metal.

the drums and the drum production is probably some of the best ever. i read somewhere that Joey literally laid down the drum tracks and fucked off leaving the rest of the band trying to write music around those drum tracks.

It's pop metal and it sucks, the nu metal genre was pretty much dead by then so the only thing left for the band to do was make their music more accessible for the mainstream audience. They saw the success avenged sevenfold was having and wanted the exact same thing. Iowa was their last good album, corey and sean are both hacks.

Joey had to deal with the members getting high and beating him around during the sessions of the other three albums, he was more no bullshit during the sessions so he felt like not dealing with that during the fourth record and toured with Korn instead

This album was definitely their best work. Other than Gehenna, this album would be perfect. Personally I like Volume 3 better and the other two I still like but I’ve listened to them so many times I’m just so fucking over it lmao. I’m not very crazy about the three albums that came after Paul’s death but I will say We Are Not Your Kind definitely has its moments and I listen to it every Christmas. Weird tradition I have.
But yeah, I don’t listen to them anymore but I will agree that they are Metal. Anyone who says otherwise is just trolling or retarded. Often both. But what’s equally as annoying are all the kids online who just started listening to Metal and think Slipknot is “the most brootal shit evar!!!” like, no kid, this isn’t even close, but give it a few years and you’ll want something heavier. Slipknot is probably the best starting band for new Metal fans. For me, I fell into the Slipknot to Sludge Metal pipeline. Started with Acid Bath and now I’m listening to Indian All From Purity.

Also, Paul is who inspired me to start playing bass. His old DVD is great for kids just barely dipping their toes into bass playing.

Surely you must be mistaken. Such behaviour is frankly unheard of in the metal community. Metalheads are not the slightest bit childish or retarded or stubborn or blatantly homosexual it's just that we're too dark and scary for the normies they can't deal with it so they call us fags but lol I mean I've only fucked like 43 or 44 dudes in total this week which is hardly any really and besides that was more of a brotherhood bond that metalfags can lovingly express toward each other in certain saunas, truckstop restrooms and turkish bathhouses. I'm on a different plane altogether. I've been into metal for over a decade now listening to the all kinds of niche shit, esp bm related, and I've reached a point where "extreme" is meaningless to me. How "hard" a band is is irrelevant. I want professionalism and integrity now, and Slipknot's always been a band that takes their music extremely seriously for how "chaotic" their aesthetic is. I appreciate the care that goes into crafting their shit and I've lately been obsessed with their discography after dismissing them for so long just for "not being metal". So, I admit it: I've been missing out and I love that I no longer am. No more wasting my time with worthless copycat "underground" bullshit; I value my time and if I invest it into music listening I want it to be as highly consistent and solid as possible. That definition varies across subgenres, of course, but you can generally tell when a band doesn't fuKKK around with their sound.

slipknot is pretty heavy though.
There's bands that use harsher vocals or play faster, but for me, the thing makes them overwhelming is how many different instruments are playing at once on some songs.
It was harder for me to get used to that than something like Death.

Agreed. It actually is kinda mindblowing how overloading their shit can be. I love the effect and it's quite unique. You can listen to extreme subgenres and after a while you get used to them and the intensity is just meat n potatoes but Slipknot's constantly refreshingly punchy.

Sulfur is their best song and I'm tired of pretending it isn't
