/trad/ - Traditional Metal
Black Sabbath edition
Black Sabbath - N.I.B https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFzDKTNLr2k

This general is dedicated to the discussion of traditional heavy metal and its many sub-genres. If this is your first time here, please view the link below.
https://pastebin.com/FeVuNsmd (updated)

>Is [genre/band/album] fit for /trad/?
If you have to ask this, it probably isn’t and you should take what you want to talk about somewhere else.
>When will charts be added to the OP?
Once we finish all of the main 1980s charts and move onto the '90s.

USEFUL LINKS
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1luaLZfavSeXui9RkO1PZ3U5gAE1XHfkH?usp=drive_link - Giant archive of old metal & rock magazines.

Anonymous No.128252308 [Report]
It's okay. My main problem with this record is the amount of padding per song, there are a lot of songs here that re-use the same passages over and over for no real reason other than to just extend songs. The sound here dances between Scorpions-ish heavy rock and blazing speed metal like what Accept were doing at this time.

it's an amazing recording, professionally done by a radio crew. at some point in 1975 or 1976 it was lined up for official release. then in a truly strange turn of events, everybody involved forgot about the tapes until some hero leaked the soundboard years down the line. (I mean literally they just forgot. it was rediscovered on a shelf and they had to bring someone in to identify the recording.)

Fully agreed, and one of the few times where having the best track first really paid off for a band.
>2. Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast
Prefer Hallowed be Thy Name but a solid enough choice.
>3. Dio - Gypsy
Good choice.
>4. Mercyful Fate - Evil
Satan's Fall wins me over for how dynamic and well-written it is but I wouldn't argue with this desu
>7. Witchfinder General - Witchfinder General
I've never been the biggest fan of this album but the title track is probably my favorite off it.
>9. Saxon - Princess of the Night
A contender for their best song, that riffing is proto-USPM.
>11. Trouble - Assassin
I think every song off of that album is amazing but I'd say The Fall of Lucifer is the best among them. Genuinely one of the greatest metal songs of the '80s.
>16. D.R.I. - Worker Bee
Only one I flat out disagree with. IMO Beneath the Wheel and Abduction are the real hits off of Thrash Zone, Worker Bee (and the shorter songs in general) just kind of felt like filler.

Power & Blood sucks. Annoying glam tune with an even more annoying "WHOAH OOH OH" chorus at the end that goes on for like over a minute. Aside from that total whiff, this is still consistent; quality material but you can feel the band resting on their laurels with the non-standouts. Said standouts are fantastic, though.

I just don't like Michael Jackson's vocals, they're very scratchy and in my opinion don't fit the more melodic sections on this album at all. Maybe his vocals will grow on me with subsequent listens, and honestly I hope they do because there's a really, REALLY fucking good album in here. (Though the final track is pretty weak.)

Of course I've listened to this before, but it struck me now listening to it again that if anyone told me that the best Dio album is actually The Last in Line and not Holy Diver, I would respect that opinion. It would be wrong, but still worthy of respect. I can see somebody having that opinion if that person grown tired of Holy Diver and Rainbow in the Dark.

Great guitar work and there are some very cool intricate songs, but the vocals...I've listened A Distant Thunder and Nosfaratu (will give those a re-listen at work next week) 10-15 years ago but I don't remember the vocals being that much thrash metal. It sounded like he tried to audition for Anthrax or something. I wish that he could've tried to do more melodic style of vocals instead of a mixmatch of Dickinson, Belladonna and early Hetfield. I probably get used to them, but it's not my favourite style of vocals to that kind of heavy metal. I think it suits better to fast thrash.

Melodic Rock or harder AOR. Scott Gorham from Thin Lizzy is the brain behind it. It's really good if you're into that sort of music.

To me it sounded similar to another former Thin Lizzy member, Darren Wharton's band Dare. Especially the second album "Blood From Stone" from 1991 where they moved from a lighter AOR to more heavy sound.

When I want to listen to Sabbath, I want crunchy riffs and pounding drums. I don't know what happened to Iommi after Sabotage but he sounded more like everything else and less like Sabbath.

Some people's tastes are just countercurrent. If 6 people in a room thinks Somewhere Far Beyond is the best out of those you mentioned, 3 thinks Tales from the Twilight World, there's always the one who says Battalions of Fear. I think it's like that for most bands that have a bunch of very strong albums
