i've been progressively mixing several projects to tie up loose ends before the end of the year and i can't stop finding new things to polish just to squeeze just that tinyyyy extra bit of headroom out, very slight eq moves for clarity, blah blah blah as i'm circling back around for additional passes.
so fucking annoying. i need an unpaid intern.

In the age of modern digital production is there even an art to mastering the 8 bar loop like in songs like C.R.E.A.M.? Does it really all rely on samples to sounds good?

>Yes, Sergei Rachmaninoff could reach 13ths and possibly even 14ths on the keyboard due to his exceptionally large hands, which allowed him to play wide, powerful chords and leaps. While some reports state his maximum span was around 12 keys, others suggest he could cleanly strike a 13th, a feat requiring a hand span of approximately 12 inches, according to a post on Piano Street. His massive reach enabled him to play the complex and challenging music he composed.

Anyone here uses electronic drums? I plan on getting a kit in a few months, both to learn on and record with but I have zero experience or knowledge about edrums so some advice would be appreciated. As of right now, I'm most likely getting the Millenium mps-750x kit since it seems like the best bang for the money and it's in my budget. I heard its sounds are kinda dog but I'm gonna use it primarily as a midi controller so I don't really care as long as the pads and everything else works.

Bust also, if you wanted to use a Virus you could for free actually, aren't they're fully emulated now? Running the factory ROM software and factory presets the hardware came with and everything via the OsTIrus and Osirus emulators.
Same team just recently cracked the JP-8000 too

the emulations just lack something. even the hardware virus B/C vs Ti is a big difference even though a lot of people have disputed such claims in the past because they would just assume that they're all the same because they're digital. like how people still use lexicon 480L and eventide H3000 because they have a truly magical sound.

not many kids are writing mainstream hits these days even with access (pun not intended) to all these plugins. couldn't possibly be that they're missing something sound-wise which the classic trance, eurodance, hardstyle etc people naturally got from the hardware they were using and a bunch of them were fairly mainstream successful.

hey anons, help me figure out a production/arrangement direction for this song:

https://vocaroo.com/13CcAW0nqPVL

^ standard intellectual indie arrangement -- think wilco, grandaddy, radiohead kinda thing

https://vocaroo.com/11ZNomdEzGaY

^ synth driven, idk what to call it but it's more corny and post-ironic. the URL even has the word gay in it

yeah anyways pls help anons, more ears = more perspective

and don't consider any of the tracks final! if i were to go all in with the 1st version i'd definitely track real drums, real piano, but keep the mellotron strings as they are

Learn to make songs in your DAW, copy music you like, listen to a ton of music of the kind you want to make, and try to finish as many songs as possible.
Making catchy music is its own art and science, but simple striking repeating melodies help a lot.
You'll most likely suck at first, but you'll get good over time.

Your daw has 90% of the tools you need to get you started and complete tracks.
Don't fall for the VST meme that you need to replace all the tools with VSTs.
Don't treat plugins like Steam games. Use a handful that you will like. Don't collect them. Even if they are free. The less you use the better for your workflow.

when a sample goes down before it goes up is it really inaudible on a very big system with good tansients when i reverse it ??

the speaker motion is determined by the waveform shape and if it is going down it is saying to the speaker what exactly?

anyway i think it is a good habit to have all your kicks starting up in phase i dont care as much with bass because it is sometimes harder to do with the synths.

what happens with the signal if the phase is down and it is fed into a compressor/limiter/clipper?

It's not specific whether the speaker cone is pulled back or pushed forward per each peak or trough in the waveform, all that actually matters is that the speaker cone does move in a different direction when the waveform alternates above or below an amplitude of 0.
So, it could either be
>waveform goes down
>speaker pulled back
>waveform goes up
>speaker pushes out
OR you can have
>waveform goes down
>speaker pushes out
>waveform goes up
>speaker pulled back
(note - some speakers have a polarity switch on the back of them, but at as long as both speakers share the same polarity the sound will be fine either way)
It does not matter nor affect the sound in any meaningful way. Our ears hear the time domain, not the single values.

>The saying is "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake," and while often attributed to Sun Tzu, it is more commonly attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte. The quote's meaning is to let an opponent continue in their error, as their own actions will weaken them and provide you with an advantage, without any intervention from you. Intervening could accidentally help them correct their mistake and avoid the negative consequences.

Pardon my dumb question but how do I get the best when recording in a room with brick walls?

I don't have a place with wooden walls where I could get to play.

I know it feels bad, but you decided it was worth $29.99. Not their fault.

Not much point. Most styles with electronic drums will be quantized and reworked in post anyway.
A really good drummer on electric could be cool, but if you're a beginner, you won't get much benefit from recording on them.
Cool if you just wanna learn and have fun though.

It was discounted at 29.99 from 50 or something. So it was ok. Yes, it's a secret sauce type of thing for me. It's worth $100.
