I love videogame music, but most fans of it badly need to expose themselves to the best work of the first-rank masters before they act as if it's on the level of said art. Videogame music wouldn't even exist without the efforts of men such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Wagner.

Videogame music is like film score where a huge part of the appeal relies on having it played in the context of something. It can be good but without the context it doesn't usually mean much to whoever is hearing it. That said the Command and Conquer games have really cool soundtracks

But I hate pretentious fags that go like
>OMG IT DOESN'T COMPARE TO LE MASTERS LE MASTERS
>NOT REAL MUSIC YO
Retardation. Most "Real Music Yo" is 2 alternting chords on a fucking guitar, or a keyboard / piano and singing. Normie music (Pop) is so fucking boring it all sounds the same so much so your brain filters it the fuck out. A lot of musicans are guilty of this. Unironically some game music mog their instrumentals. Easy.

And lets not talk about Rap thats even worse than Pop.

Some album-obsessed people often create polemic claiming their medium to consume music is the best or truest. To them, a pop slop album has more value than a videogame soundtrack simply for being an album. They are so indoctrinated by marketing to buy this type of product that they can't consider appreciating art in any other way.
Anonymous No.128398906 [Report]
They're music. The context in which they were composed for will of course heighten the experience when listening to them but the best thing about that is the memories/associations you form with a certain piece which of course isn't any different from what we'd consider normal music. Those who hold it in the highest regard ironically devalue it however.

People obsessed with videogames tend to see every other medium of art through the lens of videogames. Their favorite album is the soundtrack to their favorite game, their favorite movie is a Metal Gear Solid cutscene compilation, their favorite book is Umineko When They Cry, their favorite painting is Bob-omb Battlefield, their favorite car is the Warthog from Halo, they get their political opinions from Asmongold. They are incapable of having a conversation about anything unless it involves videogames, therefore their opinions are not real opinions. They cannot enjoy the song you posted the way a normal person would.

Sure, but the problem with soundtracks is that they aren't structured well as albums. There's no pacing, no progression, no climax, no throughline, no structure. Listening to them feels like listening to mixtapes or playlists. Because of that I don't think most soundtracks can truly be great as albums.

But it's true. Listen, if you find it great when you listen to a sequence of songs without any cohesion between them, then good for you, but you still have to at least acknowledge, that it's not making much use of the album medium. And when a soundtrack is like 2 hours long, the fact that there is fuck all in terms of pacing more often than not makes it an exhausting experience.
