Is Allegiant a better low cost airline than Southwest, or is it just as crummy as Frontier and Spirit?

I loaded bags for allegiant for a while. Better than spirit, worse than frontier. Overall they'll get you where you need to go. Planes are not as clean as they appear

All low cost carriers (Southwest, Allegiant, and its ilk) optimize (utility maximization) for making money like any other airline, but with very different assumptions of where to do that. They make no money on the fares, but instead on all incremental buy-ups. To incentivize this, the quality of what is considered a "base product" is as poor as possible to get you to spend more but the base fare by itself is rock bottom.

I can fly pretty frequently thanks to them. They are the only airline that flys nonstop to a destination I travel to frequently. Better than having a layover in shitlanta. Also sub $100 airfare is pretty good. People complain all day about budget airlines but I'd rather sit in a slightly uncomfortable chair for 2 hours than drive in shitty traffic for 12 hours.
