The vc25as are reaching end of life the vc25bs are delayed because
>According to The Wall Street Journal, the development process has been hit by multiple "production mishaps", including the discovery of empty tequila mini-bottles on one of the aircraft, and the use of jacks that were not rated to support the weight of the aircraft. While the jacking did not result in damage to the planes, "the Pentagon's contractor-management agency formally requested Boeing improve its operations."[44]

The Qatari jet would be used in the interim until Boeing gets its act together

Qatar makes its own jets or how does that solve the problem at all? I don't follow the news anymore because it's all gotten so stupid

I must have missed those moments in the 90s, 00s, and '10s when the US was too poor to buy a new jet and the honey boo boo president had to accept handouts from third world countries

so it's EMP hardened and does midair refueling and airborn C&C and all the other fun stuff? or do you just mean it has solid gold toilets

I imagine the cost of converting and upgrading it to VC-25 status would match or exceed the cost of a new VC-25.

there's the cost issue but there's also the what does it solve question which is still unanswered. I just don't understand why maggots are pretending there's such a severe global shortage of jets with beds and big comy chairs in them that the US can't scrounge up one from a more conventional source and instead has to accept a literal trojan horse from a foreign government let alone from a country with such a questionable human rights record, but the obvious answer is that it serves the maga mission of completely fucking up and humiliating the united states while proudly embracing barbarism as a national brand

literally just go to teterboro and rent a BBJ from netjets, how is that a worse option than this?

so far the only rationale given has been "ha ha TDS we're doing lots of stupid things to own the libs" which is, I guess, something I had better get used to seeing as a national mantra as you people proverbially burn the library of alexandria (actually we may see this done literally as you're currently trying to burn down the library of congress, so far only figuratively)

You apparently DID miss all the other times presidents got gifts from foreign leaders and nobody had a problem with it. And yeah, I'm sure the Saudi royalty supercharged their jet, they're not known for frugality.

An antique vase (or a pair of mating-aged panda bears) does not need to be plugged directly into the nuclear launch systems or keep the head of state alive and airborne for days while interfacing securely with the entire military, so that may have something to do with why nobody got worked up about that, you may wish to refer to the case of the wooden seal and the CIA for why gifts need to be scrutinized carefully even when it's just a trivial looking household object and not an insanely complex piece of strategic military hardware

They're using planes built for a civilian airline that went out of business before they could be delivered. I doubt they'll enter service without AAR capability.

No VC-25A has ever been refueled in midair with POTUS on board. The only time it's done is for pilot training. It's not going to be included in the VC-25Bs to cut costs.

Exactly the same as the VC25Bs. The Qatari jet will have to wait in line behind the two 747s Boeing is modding for the current contract.

And "No". They can't work on all of them at the same time. Boeing can't even walk and chew gum.

First flight of the vc25b is scheduled for next year they haven't finished ground testing
I don't think the interiors are fitted out either as the subcontractor Boeing employed went bankrupt
