>>2042171if you are genuinely only going a few miles sure be an ebike fatty, otherwise, you are paying nice bicycle price for a shit bike with a battery on, the range is bad, the components are bad, the guy i ride with started out with ebikes, not amazon specials, not ultra high end. We are talking about 2 to 3k. Full uk regulations so hopefully not a fire hazard
He would not come for slightly long rides incase his battery died, he started with an mtb, trash entry level by normal bike standards. Its been maybe a year, the thing has had everything replaced in that time. Motor, battery, controller, the cheap normal bike components like bottom bracket and headset, all fucked. Thing breaks once a month
He then got a slightly nicer ebike, same shit its always at the local bike shop. The button to turn it on just fell off one day and was not covered under warranty
on one ride, the motor just started running full power and his bike ran off on its own. This is a giant ebike btw not some xijingping special, i dont even want to know how much he has spent on repairs for these fucking things
He has now finally got a decent road bike, i can see on his strava his avg speed is basically the same. He got fitter with the shit ebikes, but I don’t think it was worth it. He could have done what i did and just bought a fucking road bike and got good. Now hes like 8k deep into bikes just to end up on something with 105
