one time, i went over the bars. it hurt a lot. nothing fancy about it. but ever since then I almost never front-brake, it’s rear only and I just ride out any skidding/fishtailing. Rather fall off and bust my ass then go over and bust my head, helmet or no

I have no idea why, but every time I went over the bars, I ended up landing on my feet safely, holding my bike in my hands upside down.
I can't tell you how I do it exactly, but this happened to me 4 times so far. Never face-planted. Always managed to jump off over the bars, land and catch my bike while it's rotating in the air.

I went off over the bars and in all other imaginable way so many times I couldn't count all of the instances but I remember the severe ones.
A vast majority of all the instances involved a motorist violating code, sometimes it was a case of credible reckless- and carelessness (which is not 'better' per se) and other times there was no other explanation and sometimes even clear demonstratioms of intent.
All of the severe cases involved motorists and results like either AC-joint popped, hip fucked, SI-joint fucked, legs fucked, ellbow fucked, wrists and hands fucked and often lasting effects.
I do not have words for how I feel towards the common motorist but I do know I refuse legal employment and business as long as that means being forced to pay taxes which then contribute to the subsidies for motoring.
But the brakes issue is completely unrelated. Learn to use your brakes and then use the correct brake for the job. On the road that is usually the front brake.

NPCs are like this, but why care about someone elses opinion, particularly that of an NPC?
I cant even tell if reactions and behaviour like the one you described are simply a product of dim whit...
or if it is much rather a deep seated dissatisfaction with ones own situation combined with the aparent solution of wishing the same lot onto everyone else instead of improving ones situation. Like you were doing.
It almost seems as if 'growing up' could be paraphrased as 'obsessing over what others think of you'. Remain the way you are, do what you feel is right, stay curious and dare experiments. After all you might become someone who only finds amusement anymore in others doing all the things you stopped doing.

one time when I was a kid, maybe 11 years old, I was miles from home on my gt dyno bmx. when I got done exploring, I turned around and headed back for home. there was a liberal arts college whose entrance was a busy intersection on the highway whose adjacent sidewalk I was travelling down. the was a short break in traffic and I went for it, full sprint, while looking to my left to catch any oncoming traffic that might be coming and slam into a 10" stone curb and go flying about 16ft and landing on the sidewalk. there was no ramp or anything on the other side for some reason, just a huge curb without wheelchair access and I smacked that fucker going full speed. I got up and dusted myself off and was sore and scraped but uninjured. Walked back to the bike and picked it up and sat down and immediately eat shit again. the forks and handlebars just shore right though the front headset tube. the only thing holding the frame and the bars/stem/forks/front wheel assembly together was the brake cable. I drug that bitch about 2 miles before some dude in a pickup offered me a ride. I risked the stranger danger shit and threw it in the back of his pickup and jumped up front in the cab. I explained what happened and he said he'd take me home. I had him drop me off at a neighbor's house and I pretended to hang out in their yard until he left then I went home. my dad was livid and I made up a story about some black people yelling at me and almost hitting me with their car so he'd just shout about niggers instead of yelling at me. lol

dont buy from stores.

I hate department stores. I fucked myself by not knowing what I’m doing.

>go into REI assuming since its two hours away and in the rich part of town and all their shit is 4 or 5 star reviewed its better than walmart bsos

>buy a 1300 gravel bike
>it’s too large for me despite me being L size and the bike being L I cant mount the frame
>drops hurt my back, week passes in so much pain i cant even sleep
Fine, ill return it and get the random huffy on sale from craigslist, I think
>go to return, given the third degree despite me being clearly under warranty. they can tell i came prepared with reciept and know the year warranty rule, so they outbrained my dumbass and got me to exchange for a CTY hybrid
>got the hybrid it’s pleasant ans fast on the road but cant handle shitty NA sidewalks or any gravel at all without jolting me terribly
>return that too, guy says he cant keep accepting returns but that he has one last, unbuilt DRT mountain bike i can have
>some guy in another thread on here said someone else’s DRT was decent, so I bite
>exchange the hybrid for the DRT and im on day 5 of waiting for my goddamn bike, i hope i dont hate it cause im probably out of refunds

so what im hearing is you are too much of a pussy to ride a bicycle and you are making it the stores problem, you are just test riding their brand new bikes for free, which they can no longer sell as new bikes when you give it back after a week because le bikes are not comfy enough :(

Idk man even if it’s within the return window id probably be fucking annoyed if i was an employee

Like why do you have intentions to 'mount' the frame? Do you not reach the pedals with the seatpost all the way in? Are you feeling stretched out when you reach for the bars despite a shortish stem?
Why would your back hurt, do you have flexibility issues? Like can you put your wrists on the floor first thing in the morning after getting up? No? Does that improve later in the day? Or permastiffy? Stretching helps in that case.
Why do you assume warranty means you get to return a product that has no manufacturinh defect? Idk about the specific laws in your place but in most places it is common understanding that warranty, as is legislated, protects the customer from manufacturing defects. You insinuate you
>know the warranty rule
are you sure you even know what you're talking about or is it a special law in your area or has the manufacturer granted any extended guarantees?
Why do you have intentions to ride a bicycle on the sideWALK? Are you trying to do to pedestrians what the motorist tries to do to... well everyone but kostly the cyclist? That would be concerning.

I didn't, and no, which is weird cause again, it was supposedly sized for my height. i wasnt feeling stretched, just odd. doesnt matter now as i dont have the bike anymore i suppse

>Why would your back hurt, do you have flexibility issues? Like can you put your wrists on the floor first thing in the morning after getting up? No? Does that improve later in the day? Or permastiffy? Stretching helps in that case.

Yes, I'm on the journey of un-fatassing myself
No, and it doesn't improve later in the day, best I can do is touch the top of my feet. Improvement is glacial slow, but when I first started i couldnt even grab my ankles. Now I can, so yay.

>Why do you assume warranty means ...

REI has a membership thing if you pay 30 shekels,no-questions return on merchandise for a year after purchase. I do agree that I basically just rented their shit because I didn't know what was nice-feeling for me and what wasn't, but I also don't care that they're selling shit used. Their policy, not mine, fuckem

>Why do you have intentions ...
honestly i just cant be FUCKED with cagies, man. so yeah, when you put it like that, i guess i AM being a bit of a cagie mindset. but listen, drivers are all fucking retarded and blind. I've been riding for two weeks, MAYBE 2, and i've already had two near death experiences with 1 tractor trailer and one ford f6fuck50 type truck. BUT i guess when you put it like that. ill get back on the road proper and give it another go....

It is good that you have noticed progress in the flexibility departement. IMO the single most important ingredient to all improvement is seeing yourself that the method works. Same goes with the average speed you ride, cognitive stuff and what not. Having a way to measure things is a great motivator. Stick with it doing good there.
Well if the shop has this polity or offer and you even paid for it I see no issue. Cagies are not blind, some do it on purpose. You will notice how for example at night on a desolate country road or in a tunnel when there is no one else around the 'accidents' (political euphemism) happen more often. And some know that even beeing seen by their fellow cagers isn't really a problem. But yeah some cagers are just simply reckless and don't do it intentionally.
But the problem is that you, invading pedestrian spaces on a bicycle (you can always just dismount and push it if for example you're close to the destination and need to get the bike into a courtyard ot whatever) are simply being a bitch and a coward. Because you feel like you cant put up with danger you rather choose to save your own ass and rather endanger others, pedestrians that is. Crawling to bigwigs and kicking underlings par exelance.

personally im a roadie cunt who literally cannot stop riding hard as fuck and suffering is the main motivation for cycling,
I get wanting it to be comfy but , just stick with it a little bit man even the thing with the drop bars fucking your back, start stretching. Or figure out what you are doing wrong or if the bike is set up wrong, before just giving up and swapping out the bike. That shouldn’t be happening. and slightly bumpy roads have legit never been an issue, lets say you actually ride a mountain bike on the terrain its designed for, thats still bumpy. Cycling is just not supposed to be that comfy. Your body WILL adapt
have watched my friend spend fucking thousands going through an ebike phase and a mountain bike on roads phase and all this shit and what happened eventually was he just grew a dick and got a roadbike. What a waste of money, could have just stuck with it like i did. There’s nothing wrong with suffering a bit, it mans you the fuck up

It's not like you're at the end of that arc. You'll eventually find you can ditch the road bike and just get a practical commuter and still bag roadies who only ride 3 times a weak and always go easy left and right. Just grow a decent FTP and sink more watts into thag fucker.

nah my arc ends at a 15k road bike probably, i gotta go fast. also, im not commuting anywhere. I live in road cyclist paradise. Cant see myself ditching my climbing bike and hopping on a commuter for the disgusting climb out of my village, or ditching the aero benefits and not passing cars at 70+ on the descent. sure, im gonna keep pumping watts but why the fuck would i do that on a slower bike? my journey ends permanently in a high speed accident

after a week away from home i go to get some sun and try to be normal, on my bike cuz im shaking too much from withdrawal to walk comfy, i find out the grips on my mtb got changed by my dad, into something smooth and thick and with some dumb led caps which make the bars 2.5" unstably wider, i go ham and after hassling tugging it off, take a knife to it, and bare bars too narrow to hold well, it was gonna be too late and i gave up and went inside and drank myself miserable. and im the problem for not appreciating a gift, he could have said something.
