The whole problem we're seeing as of late, which is so reminiscent of division, has a very simple root cause: 'Bicycle' being missattributed.
It is a psy-op, conducted by the motorist, to muddy the waters regarding what a bicycle is and what is not. The central motivation behind this is so that they get to conduct false flag operations as 'cyclists' like breaking the law the same as they do when they are using their otherotorvehicles an also so that they get to normalize operating motorvehicles outside of the bounds of the motorist inclusion zone and even in spaces explicitly protected from the motorist. That is why they will take a moped, convince politics, media and lawmakers that it was in fact 'a bicycle' only to then use it to endanger others, be obnoxious, break every law there is and invade pedestrian spaces.
Just think about it: You never see a cyclist blow a red light, ride on the sideawalk or throigh pedestrian zones. Meanwhile you never see the motorists on their e-bike on the road, let alone outside town, you'll only ever see them on the sidewalk, in pedestrian zones and crossing the road at pedestrian crossings.
So if what OP is vaguely complaining about feels like 'division': It is not. the opposite is the case. The motorist, acting on bad motives, tries to LARP as cyclist. And OP is calling it out.

IMO those steerer / fork failure scenarios are the most terrifying imaginations when it comes to cycling but at the same time you just end up contempt or perhaps even trusting after you went for hundrets of thousands of kilometers without it ever happening. I mean think about it: You saw everything happening, Murphys law in action, and while you saw videos, pics and heard stories: You never saw this thing happening (well ok survivor bias I give people that).

A car's steering is literally the same construction. It's not convincing how the ball joint would fail. It's a solid honk of heat treated quality steel. On motorvehicle you usually find the bar bent. The joint always fails the same: Rubber boor fails. Water and grime find their way in. Wear starts. The joint gets loose and klunky, as a result the steering becomes very sketchy, vague, shimmies... which is when people feel very motivated to just swap the joint out. At the same time this is still lightyears away from having the linkage physically detach.
The only thing I would like to see here is a castelated nut. I don't trust the nyloc as much. But it should be noted that thanks to the taper the ball joint remains attached even without the nut and takes considerable force to seperate. Also wtf is up with the binder on there?

It's an open ball joint. I have one and even I'm admittedly somewhat worried about the design. Grit gets in there, it'll wear down the joint, and then it can pop off. And then you have no steering, and a linkage that might drop into the road and spear into the asphalt, lifting the whole apparatus (or else bending something vital).

I think the design could be better, with a thick metal ring over a closed joint with a rubber seal over that to prevent dirt-and-grime from getting in there.

Admittedly weight and complexity goes up, along with cost, but this is your steering we're talking about, carrying stuff that's really important (plus you).
