You don't need anything besides Coaster Brakes, anything else adds unnecessary cabling and controls to your handlebars
You don't need anything other than a single speed, anything else adds unnecessary complexity (derailleurs that can get clogged up and require more maintainance, extra cabling and controls you don't need, chain tensioners et al), and all this ultimately leads to a reduction in pedal efficiency by about 5-10% do to extra sprockets the chain needs to pass through, adding resistance, plus reduced pedal efficiency caused by chain deflection on every gear besided the middle, all so it feels marginally easier to go up slight inclines

There is an angled underpass I go through every day
You have to start from a very low speed at the bottom because there's a sharp turn there
Sure, I might muscle my way up but if I actually have to brake any more due to other bike riders I will have to push the bike up on foot if I use a gear that is decent for riding flats at good speed
I did use a singlespeed for a long time and it is nice and requires little maintenance but at this point I just deal with it, riding the bike all year round
The only ramification it really has is replacing the chain towards the next summer and the occasional >flossing with a rag and/or perhaps removing the chain to get to the pulleys is all it really takes
Considering the benefits a shifter gives it's really not that bad at all.

OP never had a chain snap.
First you almosg faceplant and feel lucky that you caught it. Now you wan to stop because you wont ride much further anymore anyways and you're leaving your chain further behind you in the distance.
>furiously spin pedals backwards
fuck well try the ted shred
>full fenders back and front
sucks
OP dont be a fool. Get at least two redundant braking systems. Also always have at least a front brake. It's the only brake that actually decelerates you.

Thats weird. I ted shred my fixies sometimes but id never want to put a foot down on the ground, i imagine it would be terribly awkward, unless you manage to skid at the same time which defeats the point and isn't appicable here since I was talking about a broken chain situation. The chain bring broken would remove alot of the expected awkwardness but I doubt anyone has broken chains for a living
Your reply somehow just doesn't compute at all for me.
