Pointless
Entey level hydro discs are better and cheaper

I have this exact model. Pretty good. But I have never tried full hydraulic brakes.

I had a pair of those for a long couple of years, they replaced the generic pure mech dicks that came on the bike I was commuting on at the time

they were probably better than the worst brakes humanly possible but they were really annoying to maintain because the pads didn't self adjust contrary to claims, and the only way to really get good braking was to kind of fuck them up and ignore the manual and get them so close to the rotors that they were rubbing half the time unless you spent all your time fine tuning your rotors with one of those unbendy tools

for reference I've had v brakes, dual pivot of various makes, cantis, and now 2 different models of road hydro dick, and I can safely say I'd rather just drag my feet on the ground because at least I don't have to maintain anything

I probably spent more time in the first 3 months with these things than I've spent in ~5 years of hydraulic discs. with actual hydros you just replace the pads when they're done, replace the rotors when they're too thin, and that's it, that's basically all you ever have to do. I never even have to use my rotor unbendy tool thing because there's enough clearance with real hydros that they're only rubbing under rare circumstances

Did you have any issues running them with reduced lever stroke? It's supposedly bad for them but I hate how far is the bite point on mine with quite a bit of brake pad left

yeah, lots of rubbing and I never was happy with the modulation but that's probably as much a cable issue as it is a lever stroke issue

like, bleed, new pads, new cables, and they'd be alright for like 2 weeks and then they'd just start reverting to their default state of slightly worse than mediocre

contrast that with real hydro which is "works amazing all the time and I never even think about it"

Why can't shimano just make a cheap brake only drop bar setup like the mt200

Have the same model on my road bike and it has been fine for 10.000km (pads replaced once).
Got some disc rub lately, to fix that I had to losen the bolts, pull brake, tighten bolts with pulled brake. Now its good again.

Would I buy again? No. Disadvantages of both worlds: calbe dickery without the nice pad adjustabillity of mechs + hydro bleeding dickery (never did this tho). There is no advantage of this complex system.

I would only use mech discs for future builds for the sake of convinient maintenance. Real hydros are of course King. They are nice when they work, until they don't. It's not worth to get myself into hydro bleeding mess.

I've been using trp hy/rd for 5 years now.
One piece died on me - seal went to shit and started leaking both ways. I tried filling it with new fluid, and the old one was full of fucking dirt. Literal hell. Got a new one. It's impossible to get replacement parts.
Now the other OG unit might be going away slowly, because it requires bleeding more often.
Brake pad wear compensation doesn't seem to work too good now. And yes, I'm aware that it's a no-no to fiddle with the barrell adjuster. I know how a hydraulic system works.

I don't recommend it. They bite nice when everything works as it should. HOWEVER I've got issues with brake cable being stuck because of subpar cable routing on my bike. ymmv. feel free to ask anything

better than full cable, worse than hydro
If you can get hydro just get hydro but if you fell for a gay faggot meme bike with cable dicks its prolly worth putting these on

Cause no one who can afford hydro discs wants single speed or meme end shifters.

I've used the $140 juin tech and the $40 zoom shitters and they both work and feel the same. The juin tech look cool and come with rotors. If you're autistic enough you could probably find something on aliexpress that better than both for cheap. You need to have powerful autism to filter through the crap to find the good stuff.

I have a cheap used triban rc520 gravel that for some reason has them from factory. They work fine but I don't like the feel

Yeah idk if i could stomach anything but nice hydro discs now, been trying to let my buddy give me a spin on his high spec rim brake bike so i can see if there’s any place in my heart for anything but nice hydro discs. The modulation is fucking peak man absolutely 100% confidence when braking in all kinda of situations

if I had a road bike with cable dicks and an extremely limited buget I would absolutely do a barcons and hylex conversion

idk man having used tiagra, 105, ultegra, and some early generation non-series shimano hydro dicks, the main things that matter are the rotor diameter and the pad type, there might be subtle differences but next to other kinds of brake design it's splitting hairs

I used to live in the same building as a rivendell unracer, I'd see him in the lobby with his waxed canvas bags while I was on my crabon and synthetic everything

he wasn't that rude to me in real life but he probably talked a lot of shit to his wife and kids about me, I'm sure I've had internet arguments with him somewhere too

also I think his wife was into me and that's why they hate us, she was real cute but I don't believe in taking a man's wife from him and I want to set a good example for the youngsters and not turn them against crabon and modernity by seducing their mom

dogshit

I'd rather take cantis over cable actuated disc
