I'm pretty fat and cycling to lose weight but I live in a hilly area and hate hills
Would I benefit from an ebike or is it just a skill issue and I should get good on hills with my normal bike?

skill issue, but emtb can be fun, you just have to ride longer to have a similiar effect
whats your gearing? if you have a roadbike climbing will be fucccd

How hilly? Whats the elevation for lets say a random 20km bike ride in your area?

skill issue
motorcycle will keep you fat
the nice thing about picking up cycling:
first week sucks big time
second week still sucks but youll realise how much you improved
it stops sucking, improvement just rolls in
you git gud fast
after two years you realize the gainz are not coming anymore you'll never feel like the first few months again ever and perhaps you might only be fighting to remain at your peak
but still:
You do now have the cbance at something everyone will envy you for. Dont mess it up. Get just any bicycle and give ir the beans every day, recover on weekends so on monday morning you realize how much snergy yourw using during the week.

So its basically flat. Its a skill issue anon. I know that starting to cycle can kinda suck but if you keep going you'll be just fine on a normal bike in a few weeks.

Basically this.
I coudnt do 10k rides 5 years ago and now i can easily do 80-120km with over 1000m of elevation.

My coworker has been riding an e-mtb ever since they became a thing.
He's still a fat fuck.

If you're riding purely to lose weight you definitely don't need an e-bike. If you're replacing your car with a bike you might want an e-bike.

Out of the saddle and grind it out. Eventually it will be easier. It will still be hard and you'll sweat but you'll be more mentally able to deal with hills. Or you could walk your bike. Nothing wrong with that if you're tapped out after a ride.

I must sing to you about the gas that comes out when you and the cars traverse hills.

Please be aware!

The gas comes out when we push the weight up hill! The trees keep the wind from clearing out the gas.

Try a throttle lever with cruise control to get the proper gains.

The answer is always git gud.
Ebikes are not going to help you lose weight. They're good as car replacements for a commute since you're not going to break a sweat riding it in your office clothes unlike a regular bike (depending on the distance and elevation).
Also, remember to check your tyre pressure and your chain. Always.

Just get a regular bike, youโ€™re already fat as fuck. Stop being lazy if you really want to lose weight.
