I just got this electric mountain bike - well it's not QUITE ready yet - I had them change out the seat - though it's not the plushest urban seat they could install - I wonder if I will regret that I got the "wide" mountain bike seat instead and I am getting them to convert the front coil suspension to an air suspension - there's apparently a kit for that. It's weird it doesn't ZOOM like the rideshare electric bikes but that's apparently by design and the battery life is supposed to be gr8. It's fucking huge though and its gonna live at my parents house cuz I have a tiny apartment and I guess its just gonna fit into the back of my suv cuz I don't have a rack on my car or anything.
Did I make a mistake? This was, by far the cheapest e-mtb with the biggest battery - I couldn't afford a true dual suspension bike. I also got them to install foam in the tires so I can run them at slightly lower pressure and not risk punctures as easily - my main use case for it is taking it hiking and riding it on fire roads that are gated off so I couldn't take my car.

If you want ro be an /n/chad: Yes. You bought a moped.
If you want to be an /o/virgin: You good.

too bad, I can only wonder what use an /o/virgin would have for a bike if it was not to keep it on a car rack
>gates off so I couldn't take my car
yet more proof that the so called 'ebike' is an unfortunately successfull cager psyop intended to convince lawmakers and NPCs that mopeds were bicycles now and thus the cager gets to invade spaces outside the cager inclusion zone with motorvehicles. The endgame is a slippery slope where one day the cager gets to plow straight through a park, pedestrian area of whatever they want. The 'moped is now a bicycle' doubles as a false flag operation where the cager posibg as cyclist tries to ruin their reputation.
>I wonder if I will regret the wide seat
Perhaps read up on bike saddles online. Wider is not always more comfortable. You might end up with pressure on areas where you rather not want pressure. Also there is a correlation between the geometry of your bike and your riding position, which you can not adjust arbitarily, and this will influence saddle choice.

Many MTB people do nowadays.

I do applaud your decision to charge the damage to your parent's insurance company when it inevitably does what electric motorcycles always do. Your neighbors will thank you. Perhaps you will even inherit something if they pass away from smoke inhalation?

"Electric Mountain Bike" sounds like the biggest oxymoron in the English language
I can understand the appeal of electric commuter bikes, especially if your job involves a lot of innercity commuting like delivery jobs, but why the fuck would you ever get an electric mountain bike? Aren't things like fitness/self sufficiency partially the point of MTB?

That sounds awesome, if only there was a way to do that without needing heavy batteries and a power source to charge them, God what an amazing innovation that would be...

It really doesn't. I'm not just being facetious either, most e-bikes are speed governed to 20 miles per hour, you can go way faster than this with just your legs and fairly little effort, most E-bike batteries are also limited to aroun 40 miles, that's just 2 hours of riding at that speed assuming top speed the entire time, which again isn't even all that fast. To me a huge point of using a bike is the practicality, and e-bikes just don't make any sense unless your legs physically cannot move you on a regular bike, which if they can't, then relying on an e-bikes isn't going to help you.

I mean to just put into perspective how stupid the whole idea is, I can take a mountainbike to the trails right now and plan for an 8 hour day on the trails with nothing but some water and snacks and easily clock in 30-40 miles round trip, I couldn't do that on an e-MTB, at least not without having crippling range anxiety

It turns every mountain into a bike park with its built-in lift. MTB isn't about experiencing the outdoors anymore. Capitalism has corrupted it like everything else, now it's about adrenaline kicks without work and comparing E-Penors with your coworkers.

It's an interesting bike and it gets good reviews, it's overstatted for the price (700WH battery and 100nm motor compared to 500WH battery and 60-80nm motor being standard at that price point). The tradeoff is you're taking a gamble on Aventon's first in-house motor so there's no long-term data on reliability. But I googled it a bit and I haven't seen anything bad about the motor so it's probably fine. The only other thing I saw is that the stated range is low for the given battery size, 128km compared to my 60nm 500wh Shimano bike having 183km range, so I guess the tradeoff for the motor being more powerful is less efficiency.

Overall it's a sweet bike, I've done a lot of research on ebikes at that price point (entry level mid-drive), and it's a bike I'd consider buying so I think you did well.

Anon, you cant really push 20mph on a mtb with fairly little support.
I can do 30km/h on my roadbike for about 2-3 hours and thats pretty brutal already.

moped
compound word
motor & pedals
moped.
It has a motor and it has pedals. It is a moped. No part of the definition includes a description of the throttle mechanism. Also the 'ebike' of course does have a throttle, or you you think it's either full on or full off?
I am fully aware that the motorist constantly tries but you can not merely change the throttle user interface, like from a twist grip to a rotating dead man switch and then go on to claim the vehicle does not belong to its appropiate category anymore but a different one.
Would a car, when the accelerator worked like on an 'ebike', be a bicycle? The motorists are already working on this.
>Picrel
They even gave him a helmet despite him driving a literal car, only to reinforce the narrative that we are looking at a bicycle here and the cager may now invade spaces protected from motorists.
