New Delhi: The Canadian police have arrested a 25-year-old Indian citizen for allegedly groping at least 12 victims, some of them minors, while walking at a public water park in Moncton, New Brunswick.

The arrest was made Sunday after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police received a report of sexual interference and sexual assault.

The accused was allegedly going around the water park groping people. While 12 victims have been identified, Alicia Hill, the mother of one minor girl, indicated on social media that the number could be higher. The police have encouraged people to come forward in case they knew anything or were at the park that day.

“We are asking parents to speak to their children if they attended this location on July 7. We also want people to know that a sexual assault complaint can be made at any time. If you are a victim of sexual misconduct, please contact us. You will be listened to, and you will be believed,” read a press release by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The police also said an investigation into the matter was underway and while the accused was released from custody, he is scheduled to appear in front of the Moncton Provincial Court on 24 October. According to Canadian law, offences involving sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and exploitation of a young person or child are punishable with a minimum of six months to a maximum of 10 years in jail.

While the identity of the accused has not been revealed, images of him at the water park and of him being arrested by the police were all over the Internet.

This is not the first case of Indian-origin men being accused of sexual assault in the North American country. Canada, to which Indian immigration has tripled in the last decade, has seen multiple instances of complaints of sexual abuse against Indian-origin men.

In June this year, a mother from Ontario took to social media to talk about a South Asian man who was “staring at her daughters’ bodies” in their neighbourhood playground.

Earlier in May, another Indian-origin man was arrested for sexually assaulting underage girls. He “was known to lurk outside of the local high school and leer at minors prior to his arrest,” according to The Publica, a Canadian online news portal.

Two other cases from 2023 also made headlines. A 55-year-old was arrested for sexually assaulting two women during job interviews last September, and a father-son duo was investigated over allegations of sexually assaulting minors on the pretext of providing them vapes, marijuana, cigarettes, and alcohol.

In 2022, an Indian-origin police officer from Ottawa had to resign from service after accusations of sexual assault in a 2011 case. He was charged with the offence this June and is scheduled to appear in court on 18 July.

When the student replied complaining about the generalization, Beck-Sickinger admitted that the accusations did not apply to every individual. But, she added, "it is also unbelievable that the Indian society is not able to solve this problem ..." The professor referred to reports about rape and sexual violence in India that reach Germany "on a weekly basis." An Indian-origin man who was found guilty of raping two teenage girls he met online has been sentenced to nine years behind bars and added to the sex offender register for life by a London court.

Himanshu Makwana, 42, carried out the two offences four years apart with striking similarities, Harrow Crown Court heard as he was sentenced on Thursday. The Metropolitan Police said Makwana was arrested following an investigation by its specialist detectives who discovered that he preyed on teenage girls on social media.

"Makwana posed as a young man on social media in order to prey on young girls," said Detective Constable Lewis Jelley, who led the investigation.

"He carried out a horrific attack on one woman, and then did the same thing again a few years later. He was brought to justice following a painstaking investigation," he said, praising the "courage" of the two women who reported the offences.

The court heard that in 2019, Makwana used a Snapchat account to communicate with his first victim, who was aged 18 at the time. After speaking for a few months, they decided to meet when he drove her to an empty office block and, once inside the building, he raped her, the trial heard.

The offence was reported to police at the time but no suspect was identified. In April 2023, Makwana again posed as a 19-year-old man on Snapchat and started speaking to his second victim, who had only recently turned 16. Shortly afterwards, he parked on a street close to the victim’s school and waited for her, before asking for her help.

"The victim agreed and helped Makwana carry some books. He then locked her in his car and identified himself as 'Samir', which was the fake identity he had used on Snapchat. He then drove her to an empty commercial premises and raped her," the Met Police said.

Makwana was arrested on November 27, 2023, a day after the second victim reported the incident, with the help of an image captured by a witness which showed the car used in the incident. This enabled officers to locate the vehicle and arrest Makwana, the police stated.

Analysis of a DNA sample taken on his arrest identified Makwana as the previously unknown suspect for the offence against the first victim in 2019. He was then charged with the rapes of both victims in December 2023 and remanded in custody ahead of his trial this week.

After his nine-year imprisonment, Makwana has been ordered by court to serve an additional four years on extended licence under strict monitoring.

A mother in India has taken the life of her 35-year-old son after he allegedly assaulted his aunts.

She had also dismembered his corpse before dumping the body parts into a canal.

According to the Hindustan Times, 57-year-old Lakshmi Devi is currently on the run from authorities.

According to district police superintendent in Andhra Pradesh, Lakshmi Devi murdered her son on 13 Feb.

She dismembered her son’s corpse into five parts with the help of her family.

Lakshmi Devi then placed those body parts into three sacks and disposed of them in Nakalagandi canal in Cumbum village.

According to local reports, the woman was frustrated by her son’s indecent behavior.

The deceased, an unmarried man who worked as a cleaner, had not only sexually assaulted multiple aunts, but also attempted to rape them.

It’s believed that he had behaved inappropriately towards his maternel aunts — or his mother’s sisters — in Hyderabad and Narasaraopeta.

A man from Ajax who was arrested earlier this month for the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl is facing new charges stemming from a sexual relationship with another young female teen.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers began an investigation on April 30 after receiving information in Hamilton that a young teen had been sexually assaulted and forcibly confined in the Ajax area.


“The suspect picked up the 14-year-old victim in Hamilton and drove her to Ajax, where she was confined and sexually assaulted over a period of days,” police said in a statement.

On May 2, Gowryshankar Kathirkamanathan, 30, of Ajax, was taken into custody. At the time of his arrest, police said he faced a total of 15 charges, including five counts of sexual assault.


On Friday, DRPS officers said further investigation revealed that the accused was having an alleged sexual relationship with another 14-year-old female.

As a result, Kathirkamanathan faces new charges that include sexual assault, sexual interference, assault, invitation to sexual touching, making child pornography and possessing child pornography.

He was held for a bail hearing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact DRPS.
