>"And so what my father did was, one of our uncles worked for USAID, and because his mother had died, my father, as the one processing the paperwork, put my grandmother down as his mother," the Democratic lawmaker said. "And so I am illegal in this country. My parents are illegal here in this country."

>Minnesota State Legislator admits to being an illegal and thus ineligible to hold office
She's a citizen. She's eligible to hold office. She immigrated illegally. She was at no point an illegal because she always had legal status, even if it was fraudulently obtained. For the purposes of discussions on immigration "illegal/illegal alien/undocumented/undocumented immigrant" is generally understood to be someone without legal status without regard for how they came here (as it is entirely possible for illegals to legally immigrate and about half do).

For her to be illegal, she would have to have both her citizenship and any applicable legal status revoked, a thing that is unlikely to happen as she was not the person that lied to obtain her immigration status (no willful misrepresentation).

I understand what she was trying to do, linking her personal journey to the struggle of illegals to humanize them and show they can be anyone, but she's just fucking wrong.

As for everyone calling her illegal and calling for her to be fired/deported, you're a bunch of dumbfucks.

Reminder if they go after her for this, they also have to go after Musk for coming on a student visa and immediately dropping out to work. And Trump himself, as his grandfather came here under illegal circumstances due to having dodged the draft back in germany and thus not having a valid immigration pass from his country of origin.

A term right wingers used originally for undocumented immigrants, but now they apply to anyone with a darker skin tone than them. Have asylum because you translated for US troops in Afghanistan? Illegal. Seeking a new life after fleeing commie Cuba? Illegal. Mexican laborer who has come to the same farm every season for a decade? Illegal.

Some Trump official will probably say they're opening an official inquiry and then nothing will come of it because she didn't willfully lie on her immigration docs, meaning her citizenship can't be revoked.

No fucking idea how it will play in local politics.

No, it was actually awarded.

Even if it had been known that the documents were false, it wouldn't have been an impediment to her receiving her citizenship status after she obtained permanent residency. You need to go multiple steps back in the process before you get to somewhere where she could have had problems from coming here illegally.

According to her, her family was ineligible to enter until their Uncle who was working for USAID falsified their immigration documentation.

I'm like 99% certain this invalidates someone's citizenship, and I'm 100% certain that if her uncle is still alive, he's guilty of a felony

Okay, I guess. We would have preferred to just deport everybody peacefully, but everyone keeps jumping on this train like they think the browns are going to get to stay just because some of them are legal. It doesn't really leave much room for peaceable resolution, we're just going to have to kill everyone involved or deport them at gunpoint.

Her citizenship was based on her legal permanent residency which was itself also legal. You don't know how naturalization works. The step the fraud occurred at was on entry into the USA.

And, again, she wasn't the one who committed the fraud, so it doesn't invalidate her citizenship.

And her residency was contingent upon a fraud that was perpetuated by her family, so she had no legal basis to be in the country, let alone take a citizenship test and register as a US citizen.
>And, again, she wasn't the one who committed the fraud, so it doesn't invalidate her citizenship.
It doesn't matter whether she committed fraud herself or not. Fraud spoils every contract it touches because it's the illicit gain of a benefit through deception. You can't rightfully argue that the agreements she had with the state are still valid given that they were built on abject lies.

This idea that we need to be lenient with foreigners who illegally invade our country and break our laws is fucking stupid. Traitors deserve to be shot, invaders need to be deported. End of.

Yes.
>so she had no legal basis to be in the country
No, her residency was legal unless it was revoked even if the means to acquire it weren't. It wasn't revoked by the time she got her permanent residence and she then used that permanent residence to get her citizenship. The government missed the window to act. Both the permanent residency and citizenship were obtained in good faith.

>You can't rightfully argue that the agreements she had with the state are still valid given that they were built on abject lies.
