The United States launched strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, President Trump said Saturday evening.

"We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan," Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social. "All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home."

The president plans to address the nation at 10 p.m. ET, and CBS News will have live coverage.

"This is an HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ISTAEL (sic), AND THE WORLD. IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR. THANK YOU!" Mr. Trump wrote in a follow up post.

The decision to directly involve the U.S. comes after more than a week of strikes by Israel on Iran that have moved to systematically eradicate the country's air defenses and offensive missile capabilities, while damaging its nuclear enrichment facilities. But U.S. and Israeli officials have said that American stealth bombers and a 30,000-lb. bunker-buster bomb they alone can carry offered the best chance of destroying heavily-fortified sites connected to the Iranian nuclear program, including the Fordo enrichment site buried deep underground.

Iran has pledged to retaliate if it joined the Israeli assault. Fordo is buried almost 300 feet beneath a mountain and protected by significant air defenses.

Experts have believed the best chance at destroying the facility lies with the U.S.-produced "bunker-buster" bomb known as the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator, or MOP — a bomb is so heavy that it could only be dropped by an American B-2 bomber.

Earlier Saturday, multiple U.S. officials had confirmed to CBS News that B-2 bombers had departed Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri en route to Guam. Multiple U.S. aerial refueling tankers were spotted on commercial flight trackers flying flight patterns consistent with escorting aircraft from the central U.S. to the Pacific.

Here we fucking go again. Another war in the middle east over nukes that don’t fucking exist, a planned regime change that’s sure to go south, and vague as fuck goals ensuring we’ll get mission creeped to hell.
Except this time the White House is staffed entirely by THE stupidest motherfuckers we could find. And we don’t even have a 9/11 excuse, it’s all at the behest of a genocidal, warmongering foreign country we don’t even have an alliance with.

It's relevant because you're under the delusion that we could have avoided this by electing Kamala, which is so self-evidently not true. Since you have lost track of the conversation I will state it for you simply: The DNC and GOP are both in agreement with bombing Iran. Both sides will scramble to get political points from this but the ideology is the same. We had Chuck Schumer days ago upset that Trump was supposedly making a side deal with Iran and he wanted to be MORE hawkish.

No, it hasn't. Only Congress has the power to declare war. The President has the power to deploy the USMC at his discretion and the power to approve certain military actions under various sets of circumstances. Like after Iran mined international waters in the 80's and President Reagan approved operation Preying Mantis and the US sunk half of Irans navy in a single day. Or when President Trump signed off on putting Solemani (or however the fuck you spell it) in the ground after he planned an attack on an embassy.

The interesting part is that Israel maintains positive relations with pretty much anyone who isn't a neighbor. They have great relations with Russia and pretty positive with China. It's going to be real hard for one of them to come up with a cassus belli against the US without including Israel.
It could very well lead to an actual war with Iran, but we know how that would end.

The US hasn't formally declared war since WWII. It's more or less a dead practice. However putting troops in harms way still requires Congressional approval. In the past this was covered by getting that approval (eg iraq) or repurposing active approvals (eg the war on terror).

However presidents have 2 work arounds to that rule.

1. If there's no boots on the ground, they don't have to get permission for jack shit.
2. If they put boots on the ground, they have 90 days before they have to pull out or get Congressional approval.

As long as Trump doesn't invade Iran, he can do whatever the fuck he wants. If and when he does, he's on a 3 month clock until a constitutional crisis.

I expect if he does invade he'll try and say Iran is covered by the 9/11 authorization for use of military force because some al-qaeda presence is there or something. That or he'll just say fuck the Constitution and dare Congress to not give him authorization or SCOTUS to say he has to pull out. That said, there's enough zionists and Trump boot lickers combined in Congress that I think he could get authorization easily if he's already invaded.

https://www.cnn.com/2017/04/07/politics/congress-obama-war-authorization

If President Donald Trump decides to go to Congress to authorize military action against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad or ISIS, he can look to his predecessor for a cautionary tale of getting the legislative branch involved in voting for war.

President Barack Obama went to Congress several years ago to pass an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) for US military campaign against ISIS, but the effort failed to gain traction amid weariness from lawmakers to vote on the war and disagreements over the details of the authorization.

Ultimately, Congress never took a full vote on an ISIS war authorization.

The Obama administration began striking ISIS in Syria in September 2014, which prompted congressional critics of the military action to call for Congress to vote on the war. Initially, the White House did not send Congress a war authorization, saying it was legally justified to strike ISIS based on the war authorization approved after the September 11, 2001, attacks.

But Congress began its own effort, and a war authorization was approved in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in December 2014, when Democrats still controlled the upper chamber.

That effort didn’t go any further as the Senate switched from Democratic control to Republican control following the 2014 midterms.

In February 2015, Obama sent Congress a draft AUMF, which he said in a speech that congressional passage of the measure makes the US “strongest” in the fight against ISIS.

There were disagreements over the measure almost immediately, however, underscoring the difficulties in getting Congress to agree on what a war authorization should look like.

Syria just changed Donald Trump’s presidency

Obama’s draft authorization included limitations on “enduring offensive ground combat operations,” as well as a three-year window before it would have to be re-authorized.

The restrictions were a recognition that Democrats would insist on a clear scope for any war authorization, as well as concerns stemming from the Iraq War over the deployment of US ground troops in the Middle East.

But Republicans balked at those conditions, saying that they were opposed to limiting the military options of the commander-in-chief, for Obama or any future US President.

The disagreement, as well as Republicans’ skepticism of Obama, stalled the measure. By April 2015, then-House Speaker John Boehner was already saying Obama would not get an AUMF.

“Until the President gets serious about fighting the fight, until he has a strategy that makes sense, there’s no reason for us to give him less authority than what he has today. Which is what he’s asking for,” Boehner said.

The 2002 Iraq War vote – the last time Congress passed a war authorization – also loomed over lawmakers, who remembered how then-Sen. Hillary Clinton’s vote for the war was used against her years later on the presidential campaign trail when the war went sour with the public.
Anonymous
6/22/2025, 8:02:33 AM No.1415164
Both Trump and Clinton said during the campaign that they agreed with the Obama administration assessment that the war was legally justified by the 2001 AUMF, which was intended to fight al Qaeda and passed a decade before ISIS existed. But they also said they’d support congressional approval of the ISIS war.

Now many of the same lawmakers who failed to get Congress to pass a war authorization for Obama are hoping they’ll have better luck with Trump in power – and Thursday’s airstrike against Syrian government targets has sparked a new round of calls for an AUMF.

“We had a bill in for a couple of years nobody was interested in – we tried to wordsmith differences between Democrats and Republicans – so we’re actually exploring some different ways of coming at it,” Sen. Tim Kaine, a Virginia Democrat who’s been one of the biggest advocates for a war vote, told CNN last month.

The assertion that they have nukes is being used as a pretense for regime change.
Who benefits from regime change? Israel.
All this shit happened after Israel attacked Iran, which we know for a fact wasn't coordinated, because the US had to spend time moving carrier groups to assist Israel.
Israel is doing this shit now because they want to decouple from the US, knowing that they are losing popular support from the American people, and that if they don't act now then they won't have another shot.

There's your opinions as obliterated as Shayrat
So much for 'No More Foreign Wars' seven years later - and saying Obama would start a war with Iran six years previously, you orange hyper-hypocrite.
Hypocrisy. It's hardwired into the DNA of neocons & MAGAtards. Because unless the latter stop glazing that orange thing and ensure his political destruction in the midterms, it proves there's absolutely no difference between GOP neocon hawks & hardcore cultist Trumptards. Trump said 'No More Foreign Wars' in 2024. Either become completely anti-Trump and ensure his political destruction two years from now or you want foreign wars. Choose wisely, MAGAtards of /news/.

Prices, I don't really care. Other countries retaliating or declaring the US as a high risk country, that I'm afraid of. In response the US destroys half of Iran's navy in a single day, including the most technologically advances ships they poses.

Iran throws a screaming tantrum and tries to sue the US on international court. The cout finds the US did nothing wrong and dismisses Iran's piss baby tears.

The US ship that hit the mine was put in drydock, repaired and went on to have decades of active service.

At the same time Biden made almost identical unequivocal statements about Iranian nukes to Trump - they would never be allowed to acquire them. And he likewise said military action was a last resort but that we "wouldn't wait forever" and force was absolutely on the table.

Several lawyers and scholars who have studied the international law of armed conflict say the United States is without a doubt at war with Iran for purposes of application of that law, and that Mr. Trump acted in violation of international conventions.

“The short answer is that this is, in my view, illegal under both international law and U.S. domestic law,” said Oona Hathaway, a professor of international law at Yale Law School who has worked at the Defense Department.

Brian Finucane, a former lawyer at the State Department, agreed that Mr. Trump needed to ask Congress for authorization beforehand. He also said “there is certainly a U.S. armed conflict with Iran, so the law of war applies.”

On Sunday, Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, called the U.S. attack an “outrageous, grave and unprecedented violation” of international law and of the United Nations charter, which forbids U.N. members from violating the sovereignty of other members.

Mr. Araghchi did not specifically say that his country is now at war with America. Mr. Finucane also said the United States had violated the U.N. charter.

Ryan Goodman, a law professor at New York University who has also worked at the Defense Department, said “one important matter for both domestic law and especially international law is the issue of ‘imminence.’”

The Trump administration is justifying the U.S. attack by saying Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon was imminent, Mr. Goodman noted.

But “the law would require that the attack would be imminent,” he said, and “it is very hard to see how the administration can meet that test under even the most charitable legal assessment.”
Even if one were to focus on the question of a nuclear bomb, U.S. intelligence agencies have assessed that Iran had not yet decided to make such a weapon, even though it had developed a large stockpile of the enriched uranium necessary for doing so.

G.O.P. leaders in the House and Senate have signaled support for the strike, but Democrats and a few Republicans are demanding that Congress approve any further military action.
Mr. Kaine, who serves on the committees on armed services and foreign relations, introduced a Senate resolution last week requiring that Mr. Trump get explicit congressional approval before taking military action against Iran. Mr. Kaine on Sunday said the measure was still relevant and that he hoped it would come to a vote this week.
Mr. Massie, the Kentucky Republican, introduced a similar war powers resolution last week in the House with Ro Khanna, Democrat of California.
“When two countries are bombing each other daily in a hot war, and a third country joins the bombing, that’s an act of war,” Mr. Massie wrote on social media on Sunday.
Mr. Massie said he was “amazed at the mental gymnastics” Mr. Trump’s defenders have employed to argue the United States was not entering a war by attacking Iranian nuclear facilities.

Well, the awesome ceasefire that Trump apparently set up forced Iran to stop attacking immediately, then allowed Israel to attack them for another couple hours before they were bound by the ceasefire.
You know, the dumbest fucking way you could set up a ceasefire.
