The C class is for the middle class.
The E class is for the upper middle class.
The S class is for the upper class.
But they are all well made, reasonably priced cars.

The C class is for the upper middle class.
The E class is for the upper class.
The S class is for the high end class.
But they are all overpriced pieces of shit with cheap interior.

What Mercedes-Benzes still hold their value on the auction blocks? Or are they all throw aways?

Even the AMG GT dropped like a sack of shit price wise, on par with a fucking Audi. What happened Germany?

Trying to appeal to china and influencer crowds.
But also most likely some management changes, eu policies, financial struggle or mix of some if not all of the above.
Tbh I was actually opting for 6cyl diesel glc. I even tried one on a test drive. And I even would’ve live with cracking interior, but the motherfucker lost the ability to brake! It just shown a fucking error message and fuck you brake pedal was stiff and I couldn’t brake with my foot. Thank god emergency brake was working and it wasn’t on a highway.
Sales rep was sweating and he had to call a towing truck.
E-class is as shit as c-class.
S on the other hand still keeps up, but - it’s as blingy as all other mercs and I’m not surprised that it’s the worst selling luxury sedan
Fuck new mercs.

this.
bimmers and audis too.

the only german cars worth actually buying and keeping long term are the special 911s and caymans
and those are only worth it because its pretty certain they will increase in value
you could MAYBE make the same argument for some M cars, the manuals in particular, non-hybrid ones. but its much more risky.
oh, and the r8 audi, which im pretty sure is discontinued now.

everything else is lease and throw away when the lease is done.

>What happened Germany?
several things
-they tried to go all in on tech (scared of how much people liked their teslas) and failed miserably. which, ofc they did, because competent sw devs are not staying in germany so they can make 60k/year, they go to the us and make 250+k.
-they tried to appeal to chinks, which means more tech, more chintz, more flash. bmw and merc mostly, audi still has the reserved luxury thing.
-they got raped by eu emissions faggotry. everything has to be hybrid, v8s are only on 100+k cars, engines must sound like hand vacuums on the lowest setting, etc etc etc. those companies know very well how much we all want another NA v8 m3/c63, but its just not feasible anymore.

i'll grant you that they still have the decency to offer a few manual m cars. but aside from that, hell no.
fuck the huge ugly grills, fuck whatever the shit the 7series/x7 front end is supposed to be, fuck the giant tablet they stick in all their cars, fuck touchscreen/capacitative everything.
bmw knew how to make the ultimate driving machines. they knew how to make cars that were classy and cool. they threw it all away.

>opel
dunno, been years since i've even seen a review of their cars. don't see many on the road neither.

I’m sure it’s a fine car but most people that i swim with that want a high end track Porsche aren’t interested in a Caymen for that price bc the 911 is the one they’re willing finance

Mercedes Benz saw that most growth potential is in China and developing world where new upper classes have a louder style than in Europe.

Ironically Volvo under the Chinese has been going for what you want.

Volvo under chinks is the most underwhelming yet overpromised cars I’ve ever had a chance to drive.
XC90? Huge modern SUV… yet shitty engines and tiny interiors. Built quality doesn’t correspond to the price and interiors feel tiny and crap for the money. Have I mentioned eerything has to go through shitty android infotainment? Basically this applies to the entirety of their lineup

It lost it's sophisticated, over engineered status after the 90s. They were still well made into the early 2000s, Now they are bloated, castrated versions of their former selves, and marketed for sand niggers and welfare queens

Rather than selling cars based off of engineering prowess and the perception of longevity, modern Mercedes are now built with planned obsolescence and tech gadgets in mind. Rather than marketing cars to buyers by showcasing the advancements in engineering compared to other brands, modern Mercedes now just swathes the interiors of their cars with enough screens and LEDs to where their luxury cars now look like a gay disco on the inside. Modern buyers seem to like that shit, however.
Just look at the old ads for Mercedes, they'd give you a leftist meme-tier wall of text basically explaining why their cars are engineered better and why a Mercedes is an intelligent investment because of that. Modern MB ads will just show off some fancy light up grille or huge screen and maybe give you a witty, single sentence caption instead. I think that also speaks to buyers, if not society as a whole becoming less intelligent as time goes on.

to be fair, history shows that nobody keeps their cars for that long. especially not well off people.
somebody who was rich enough to buy a high end merc 30 years ago is driving a modern car today(or they're dead, i guess), regardless of whether their old merc is still driveable. maybe they've kept it as an investment or for sentimental reasons, but they're definitely dailying something more modern.

lmao so true. when i used to work at mercedes dealership years ago as a service tech we used to call the "C-class" the "CHEAP class". when ever i did a new car prep on a sold car some customers would have me replace the "C300" emblem with "C63" along with "AMG" emblems to go with it.

those older w204 class V6 engines were great motors though. i hear the new I4 turbo engines are trash.

The upper class aren't going into debt for these things but they're not purchasing them with cash either, you'd be foolish to. Leases and loans is the smart move.

Funnily enough the W205 actually had air suspension available which I don't think has ever been offered before or since in that segment. Naturally nobody fucking bought it and they give up on it for the W206. Trying to find high trim 3 series/C-Class/A4 which ISN'T the sport model (M, AMG, S) is virtually impossible. These cars attract buyers who are only obsessed with status, it can be just as well equipped and rattly as a 15 year old nissan they won't care.
