I've never understood this mentality. Manual is far easier in traffic. Just put it in first and idle along. Make a game out of how far you can go without touching the clutch or brake. I did this daily in seattle traffic and never had any issues. When I did the same commute in an auto I was annoyed at having to ride the brake the whole time since the car wanted to roll way too fast.
