Here is the perfect example of dumb car naming. That being the Nissan S13.
In US it's called the 240SX because it has a 2.4L engine there. Makes sense.
In Japan it's called the 180SX.... because it has a 2.0L engine.....
In Europe it's called the 200SX..... because it has a 1.8L engine......

Show some other examples of bad car naming.

It launched with the CA18DET. The SR20DET was a change made after the first few years of production.

Nothing new. BMW is retarded about naming. BMW E30 325e was a 2.7, E36 320i was available with a 1.8, E23 745i was a 3.2/3.4.

At the beginning it had the CA18, but they didn't update the name when they switched to SR20
But all S-chassis cars should be named Silvia anyway, fuck the sovlless german-copying appliance names

Nope, it's correct, EUDM S13 had the CA18 for the whole production run, only the S14 got the SR20

The S13 already cost more than a 5.0 Mustang in the early '90s, adding the cost of a turbo engine that still had 20hp less wouldn't have helped sales.

It was always what displacement the power would represent.
Like the E23 745i for example had a 3.2/3.4 litre turbo 6 that had comparable power to a 4.5 litre NA engine.

This.
People either forget or are simply too young to know that the KA was just the final iteration of the NAPS-Z engine series (Z18/20/22/24); basically an updated Z24. The NAPS-Z series being the non-performance branch-off from the original L series engines, with the FJ20 being the performance path that evolved out of the LZ twin-cam engines. Which is actually funny in a way given the final version of the KA receiving the twin-cam, 4-valve head.
Fun fact: one of the main design updates of the KA24 over the Z24 was the strength of the block around the head bolts. Z24s are notorious for the block cracking around the holes.
Also fun fact: the KA24E (single cam) shares the exact same exhaust manifold bolt and port spacing as the single cam CA18E/ET, save the port shape, and you can literally bolt an original CA18ET turbo manifold to a KA24E head.
Even funner fact: nobody reading this gives a shit, and it's 3:37am for me.

I hate BMW and Mercedes naming conventions. I will also never forgive ford for calling the Mach-E a Mustang. I drove a mocky for work and I liked it but I’ll never even consider one because of that badge gimmick shit they do with it. Coulda called it any other horse name and I’d probably own one but nope, had to try to be jews and cash in on clout and it backfired.

It's kinda hard to place the FT86 cars anywhere because the ass end of a BRZ is so similar to a Crosstek, they don't run a 2.0L Corolla motor or the big 2.5L CamryRav4 motor either, it's just kind of it's own thing.

Easy indicator if krautshit is worth considering or not. C63 with a 6.3L? Maybe, dig deeper and consider more aspects of the car/deal. C63 with a 2.0? Hard pass.
Same for a 330i, and VW is only if it's a TDI with no piss tank.

That's what they WANT you to think
Before they released the C-HR they renewed the copyright on the celica name
Think about it - "Coupe High Rider"?? It's a four door! What coupe could they be referring to? Celica, of course.
They will never admit this because they know how much mitsu got lambasted for the eclipse cross

As far as trims go I think the Camaro is one of the worst offenders of all time. Not just for the modern ones, but all of them.

For example the RS badge. On the first gens and early 2nd gens RS was an appearance package that was added to an existing trim. You could have a base 327 RS, SS350 RS, Z/28 RS etc. But it was later turned into its own trim for a time before going back to an option package to add to an existing trim. However in some markets RS continued on for base models. When someone says RS Camaro its meaningless without a year and depending on year, without the associating trim. On 6th gens in particular RS can mean 2.0T, 3.6, or 6.2.

The Z28 trim used to be the secret top trim in 67 and early 68 before they started to advertise it. 69 Also had the rare ZL1 option that you essentially had to have an in at GM to get. Come the 2nd gen the Z28 was promoted more than the SS. During the oil crisis the SS went away completely leaving just the base model and the Z28 but then they got rid of the Z28 because it had lost all meaning; both performance and handling upgrades. GM pushed the Camaro to be a personal luxury vehicle and introduced the LT (luxury touring) to slot below the nameless top engine trim. Z28 came back like a year later but it still lacked the major improvements past Z28s had but with Super Sport trims gone something had to take the place of the "high output" V8. Z28 would later go on to be the standard V8 trim until the SS came back as an option package for Z28s in 96 and its own trim in 98 above Z28. 2002 had the semi-official ZL1 as the top model.

When the Camaro came back for 2010 the trims went 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, 2SS, ZL1, Z28 with the RS appearance package available on 1LT - 2SS trims. The 5th gen was a throwback to the 1st gen so logically the ZL1 would be the top model with the Z28 below it but the opposite happened. The 6th gen was the only one without a Z28.
