$10k can get you into a 500hp V8, not a 100hp hairdresser's car. Hell, you could always just buy a $5k 335i/135i and slap a tune on it until it blows like most people do nowadays. Early 5th gen, manual V8 Camaros are under $10k as well. These >>28448114 and 350Zs can be found in clapped, but running condition for $5k. A MINI Cooper S can be found for $5k, turbo or supercharged. An Abarth 500, as well.
Whatever flavor of car you prefer, It's amazing the kind of deals you can get when you stop pretending we're still living in the 2010 world, and it's amazing the kinds of excuses people will make to put on blinders and pretend those deals don't exist. The mid '90s are now 30 years ago, after all, not 10-15. Those ~2010 era cars are now at the bottom of their depreciation curve.

As long as you aren't a wrenchlet and can vet build quality, you can get a pretty nicely sorted 7 build for <$15k and it's the most fun drivers car you could possibly own.

Everything you mentioned will need at least $5000 in repairs (especially the Turbo BMWs and Minis they get expensive really fucking fast), and the only Camaros under $10,000 are 5th Gen V6s. A 5th Gen SS will never EVER be under $10k because the motor/trans on their own cost that much.

And I would say 60% of 100,000+ mile cars from the 2010s need timing chains by now ($1500-3000+)

The cheap ones are clapped out and riced, the nice ones are like $15-23k, and the engines cost a lot of money to replace like $4-5000. And a decent chunk of them (as many as VA WRXs imo) are sold with blown motors after 100,000 miles.
