I feel like it wasn't the eating that was the issue.
He probably had a heart attack or something and confused that with choking.
He was "choking' for 10 seconds then seized up. Even if his airway was 100% blocked, even the most unhealthy person would have a good minute before they ass out.
But if your heart stops beating, you can lose consciousness in seconds.
