Getting a new battery for my 2009 Saturn Vue tomorrow and was wondering if this is really necessary, couldn't I just use WD-40?

I was in the mf ghetto and stopped into an autozone to get a can of this cause I was putting a nicer battery in my car. The guy at the counter was so overjoyed to see another white face that he gave me 10% off a $3 can.

Best stuff for a single pole (ie. battery lug, blade connector): copper/nickel anti-seize

If theres multiple connectors close together use dielectric grease

This stuff >>28451025 assuming itโ€™s silicone grease is good for a ton of different things. Silicone grease, plumbing grease, dielectric grease, I think itโ€™s all nearly the same.

#1- battery terminals and any electrical connectors that are succeptible to moisture and can get the green death over time
#2- brake parts
#3- O-rings, I use it on my pressure washer hoses and gun and it makes the seals last 10x longer. Also if youโ€™re ever changing cartridges on showers or sinks or anything like that, the silicone grease is a necessity unless you want the thing to leak in a couple months, if not the first time you use it,

Just use dielectric grease. You can get a little pack of it at [corporate auto parts store] for like a dollar and it has more than enough to slop all over your shit.

No to both.
Buy the small tube or even single-use packet of dialectric grease they'll have at the counter next to the register. Brush your terminals with a metal bristle brush, make sure they're seated & tight on the posts, and only after you're done tightening them, then smear a layer of the dialectric grease all over the connection joint before slipping the rubber cover back on.
Do not be /that guy/ who smears that shit onto the post BEFORE clamping the terminal on. You're gaining nothing except making the connection shittier.
The grease on the outside of the connection basically seals it from moisture, though not 100%. It's best to dress the terminals at least once a year; I typically do it twice, during both temperature changes.
Thousands of people will argue what I've said above, and say it's wrong, and link to yoo-too-burrs who really don't know wtf they're talking about, but they're all wrong.

which is exactly why you use anti-seize like a non-retard since its conductive
