Depends. The OG real Skodas are due to soviets kicking Czechoslovakians in the head to "keep the fucking thing simple you retards".
The VAG era ones are just VWs albeit the bottom shelf ones buttered up. Skoda rarely if ever used the fanciest tech VAG had to offer.

I've got a slav friend and he swears by them cuz they'll last for an eternity but my brother's friend lives in india and there they call it as bad as any other german cuz it hardly lasts for 5 years. I can't tell who's right cuz I think both of them are their target audience

They seem to run fine in India. They can't take abuse like a Suzuki or Honda. But, well kept ones just run I think.

Love my Octavia VRS 245 Estate. It's basically a simple un-optioned manual GTI wagon, except you can't get a GTI wagon. Based on the peak mk7.5 Golf too with 242hp and the LSD for unlimited corner speed. Perfect dad wagon.

Slavs are getting cars made in Czechia by White people.
Indians are getting much cheaper monkey models built in India by Indians, for Indians

Slovak here. By default of regional proximity and shared manufacturing, Skodas used to have a huge majority of market here. Still the most popular brand althought nowhere near majority, there is a lot of global competition. Most sales are company fleets.

Skoda used to be good (Czechoslovakia 1st republic, quite innovative) then bad (Soviet Czechoslovakia, soviet "quality" and retarded engine in the back conceptions S1000, S100-135, this is also true for Tatras) then somehat shitty but regionally affordable compared to western brands (90s after USSR disbanded) and now good again. VW saved it from communist mismanagement. Tech is VAG shared so same benefits/problems than any other VAG brand, the differences are styling, pricepoints and minor details..

Learned my driving in Skoda 105, love/hate that fucker.

for boring poorfags who buy VW but this time it's non-existent in NA and a little bit cheaper. it's an OK car if you have zero interest into cars and no money.

it's chad in the same way people think they're smart and all that for not buying status and sports cars but you're just a wagecuck man.

Slav here, there is an insane amount of VAG cars on our roads. At this point any mechanic can work on a random skoda without any issues. A lot of them have done well over 350000km. Diesel engines were really good back in the day. I might get an octavia as my next car

Isn't the Octavia basically just an enlarged Golf, the same way the Scala and Kamiq are basically larger Polos?
I kind of like the Scala's looks actually. Reminds me of the 2000s Audi A3 somehow, except it's got an almost wagon-like hatch in the rear. Shame it's such a poverty mobile in base spec and costs as much as a Golf or a Corolla if you want any features (though that probably applies to a lot of VAG cars).

The latest gen Fabia's probably VAG's best looking subcompact / B-segment car right now.
Shame the prices have gotten so high in many countries. Not paying 25k+ for an econobox, especially given how many problems these new-ish VW MQB platform cars seem to have.

The new models are all various flavors o MQB platform cars.
Kamiq, Scala, Slavia and Fabia are MQB A0 (Polo), Karoq is MQB A1 (T-Roc), last gen Kodiaq and Kodiaq GT are MQB A2 (mk2 Tiguan), and current gen Kodiaq, Octavia, and Superb are MQB Evo (Golf/Passat).
Reality is even between those different families they'll have a lot of parts that interchange, so they're all related to the Golf in some way.
