My dealer told me to come back when I reach 1000miles so he could change the oil, but the reason was so he could check the oil that he took out for metal shavings and test it, to be sure that nothing was eating the insides (e.g. due to an error and the manufacturing plant).
It was clean and he just filtered the oil and put it back in, no charge.

My buddy bought a new civic. The L turbo series. Yikes.
He went to the dealer 800 miles before his first oil change at 8k miles was due. They told him to come back within 500 miles.
I told him long ago to change that oil at 2k and tell the dealer to fuck off.
I cannot believe they want the first oil change at 8k miles. Criminal

break in oil is actually designed to have less lubriscity to seat the rings in the bore, to literally cause the bore to cut material from the rings as it runs.
it's not wise to run the break in oil beyond seating them.
not only that but you don't want to lug the engine during break in or use regular oil because if the rings don't seat the engines junk.
