Signaling for a lane change is the shopping cart test of driving.
It's not technically required and most people don't do it. But doing it demonstrates conscientiousness that only people with an IQ in the top 15% are capable of.

I suppose realistically might've been a better word. There is no actual penalty of lazily drifting across lanes like most people do, because no cop is going to pull you over for it unless you're also speeding at the same time or something.

I do it even on an empty road because it's almost second nature at this point, even easier on most later model cars since you can tap the signal once to flash (at least) 3 times so you're not even clicking the stalk or anything.
If I happen to be driving like a somewhat hooligan I always signal my moves as well to at least look like a courteous asshole. I hate people that don't.

Driving CDL, I signal like a quarter mile or more before I turn because I've got to start downshifting through the gears. It gives advance notice to the people who tailgate me because they think riding 12 feet behind a big heavy slow vehicle will make it go faster

Signaling period is. Every third fucker out there no longer signals on turns and then has the AUDACITY to honk at me for driving where they didn't say they were going to drive. Kill them all.

That's how they drive in 3rd worldia. They don't signal they honk.

I noticed the other day that people weren't reacting to my right front turn signal in a normal fashion. I would put it on and people wouldn't cross the road in front of me when making a right turn onto another street. Checked it and found it wasn't working properly. Cleaned the bulb contacts and got it working properly again.

Bulb indicator flashed normally because I have a solid state flasher in place due to rear led tail lights on my flatbed.
