its funny that people still get triggered by this thing. callaway didn't have to make it. most tuner companies don't try to set speed records in their project cars. the few that come to mind are Jun with their bonneville 300ZX, and Smokey Nataga with his top secret supra.

Callaway will make and sell you the parts, assuming you're the lucky only owner of this car. Also since when was it not road-legal anymore? Genuinely curious, did something change?
>>28459797
Technically it was a fully complete model for what was going to be a line of production models, however $400,000 wasn't exactly palatable enough to make it reality. That's not why people seethe at it though.

they never made more than 1 Mclaren F1 prototype with modified gearing and removed rev limiter, but people like to pretend you could just hop into any F1 and do 240 in it.

You need to remember that porch owners were already assblasted stock C4s were able to out-corner them in the 80's. The Callaway just completely buck-broke them.

That's just how top speed claims were done back in the 1980s. I shit you not, there is no independent record of a Ferrari F40 doing more than 200mph in 1987 but Ferrari themselves claim the car can do it.

What was Ferrari's proof? Their word. I kid you not, Ferrari didn't actually provide proof to their claim, they just said it could do 200.

In 1991 Road & Track tested the top speed of the F40 and it topped at 196. However despite this, Ferrari still claims the F40 did 200+.

So yeah just common practice for companies to make up claims of top speed.
