emotional/political sentiment.

Similarly, "reliability" is junk data that conflates simple annoyances of not being able to use bluetooth to connect with phone with engine failures, brake failures, etc.

This. Buying new budget car is retarded when you can buy a 3 year old premium car for that money. It's not like the car industry undergoes huge changes in a mere few years. Don't buy new shitboxes. Their used value is awful too.

>It's not like the car industry undergoes huge changes in a mere few years
This is true to a degree, but not for newer car companies. Companies like Tesla has had huge leaps/bounds change in 3-4 years. Their latest Model 3/Y have much better improved NVH, computer systems, and generally better build qualities overall that is now near mid-high or top of the line. Similarly, the Chinese car industry is moving rapidly and fast in improvements in all directions, following Tesla style (computer industry style) rapid improvements.

Its only the legacy car companies in US/Europe that are stuck with 20 year update cycles.

The only 2 "shitboxes" left are the versa and mirage, and the mirage barely qualifies as a "car" or so I've heard
Thus, the versa. It also comes with 5mt as the base.

I don't get whey anybody would buy a new shitbox commuting appliance. By the time you pay that souless appliance off you could have just leased 2 or 3 of them. Instead you're left with a $3k shitbox with a CVT and direct injected engine that's ready to shit the bed.

Most of the newer cars for sale where I live want 80% MSRP for something with 100k miles. Rather pay the extra 20% at that point.

I certainly wouldn't buy anything above the Corolla on that list, but I don't really know why you'd buy any of these new anyways. If you actually care about cars, then 20k gives you a much more interesting used one. And if you don't, then a 10 year old version of any of these is a much better value.

The big issue with used cars is you have no idea how they were treated for all their mileage. 100k miles isn't crazy high but if it was straight up abused you're getting fucked harder than just buying new

I bought a used Nissan Versa 13 years ago, neglected maintenance, went too long between oil changes constantly, treated it like shit, and sold it to a neighbor a few months ago. Only real issue it had was the transmission was starting to feel rough, which it's honestly amazing that it hadn't died yet considering it still had the original 2010 CVT with over 100K miles on it, and those things are notorious for killing themselves early.

Anecdotal evidence doesn't really mean shit.

Civic is the only good option in that list.
>Mitsubishi
Terrible build quality and handles like shit.
>Nissan
Same as Mitsubishi and are also going bankrupt so parts cheapness, the only positive Nissan have, will be out the window in a year's time.
>Kia/Hyundai
Easy to steal and their engine quality is ass.
>Volkswagen
Made in Mexico shitbox with BMW-levels of repair costs.
>Mazda
Rustbucket that's barely above Volks.
>Toyota
Basically an inferior Honda outside of the Rav4 and 4Runner.

The best shitbox is probably still the Mazda 3. Still has a real torque converter, still has a manual option on the base model. Better interior layout, reliable, and roomy. Nissan will be more comfortable because they sink an unholy amount of money into developing their seats, but will inevitably lose the CVT

Why are you guys so opposed to new cars? Somebody has to buy them in order for used cars to hit the market

And the greatest benefit of buying one new is that you get a blank slate, you don't have to worry about other people's lack of preventive maintenance

No, you have to buy something used. You need to pay 95% of what a new one costs, only beat to shit, at a high interest rate, no maintenance was done on it, and somebody has been sharting on the seats for hundreds of hours. That's the high IQ move, according to /o/. Buying used is a complete meme right now, unless you can find a RARE deal.

But it's not worthless, it's a perfectly functional car that I can either continue to drive with no payment, or that I can turn around and sell if I want to. As opposed to just continuing to pay the dealer jew a lease literally forever and never owning anything.
