Lube & tire tech if you want to skip the diy aspect.

Otherwise just Google/YouTube your problem.

Do some shit yourself. Ask if you could do that 8 hrs a day while being insulted. If so get an ASE cert and apply for jobs online or go to small local shops and literally ask the person at the desk if they're looking for work. Do not accept a lube tech or porter job. Badda-bing badda-boom.

That's the problem. Most of the people I know had "the knack" and fell into a related position without much persuasion. People who need educational training are better off going into other jobs where they train you onsite.
Also consumer mechanics are some of the worst jobs in the field.

Please pick literally any trade. Being an auto technician is just a glorified parts changer which isn't hard nor worth eating your time/money for a career you will begin to hate and leave yourself burnt to wrench on the shit you actually like.

I recommend you get experience in something before deciding to do it for a living. Also never make your hobby your professional unless it pays you a shit ton of money. This profession does not.

Don't bother, if you have half of a brain you'd do literally anything else with your life. The pay is shit, the work is shit, your coworkers are going to be retarded 99% of the time. Find a white collar job and wrench on the weekends to get your fix.

i tried doing about 5-15 mins of stretches and warm up exercises before spending a few hours crawling around under the car, i can say i actually didn't feel as sore; prior week i had crawled around under the car for a similar amount of time but no stretching and i was sore for a few days. i don't work out or anything like that either, i'm very skinnyfat. by the next morning i was ready to crawl under again, barely felt any aching.

learn about book rate sooner than later.

knowing this will basically help you decide if you will work for someone else or go into business for yourself.

Kinda depressing being an engineering flunk out and a dealer mechanic. Some of my coworkers seem clinically retarded. I'm one of the newest techs there and and I'm an unofficial diag tech and am effectively the Foreman's apprentice

Constant exposure to really nasty chemicals/fluids. All labor work is hard on your joints. Old mechanics all have fucked wrists/knees/backs. Not worth it for the shit pay.

Alright OP I assume you're young and full of passion so let me give you my experience over the years. Let's start by answering your question. Go be a tire and lube tech. You'll need basic hand tools, a cheap impact, and large impact grade socket sets. Harbor Freight all your tools and stay off the tool truck. There is zero reason for you to ever set foot on that vehicle.
This is the part of my blog post where I tell you to not fucking do it. This industry does not give a single fuck about it's techs or their livelihoods. There are so many aspects about this industry that are disgusting and awful that it makes you wonder how these guys have been stuck in it for over a decade but here's what you can expect.
>Flat rate pay scale
Flat rate is basically pay per job and they almost NEVER provide enough labor time to actually do the job properly especially in a dealership setting. Wanna pull the entire dashboard out of a 2022 Hyundai Sonata with the entire interior pulled out and every single sensor needing re-calibrated after reinstallation? 5 hours. Welcome to flat rate. Some jobs are gravy, most are a bitch. But we gotta keep those labor times low so we can stay competitive. They reduce the labor time so the customer pays less meaning you'll get paid less because god forbid your shop doesn't charge the customer 200+ an hour per labor hour.
>Shop dynamics
Ass. All your co-workers are either old, jaded, or angry. They're on flat rate too so they ain't gonna teach you shit. If your question can't be answered in a minute you're getting in the way of their already abysmal paycheck. You gotta have a thick skin working in a garage. People in this setting are real and are very cynical. Camaraderie is coated in insults. If nobody is making fun of you then they don't like you.

>Tool Truck
The rape bus somehow finds a way to scam techs out of thousands of dollars for tools that are only a dogs nut hair better than Icon's. Stay off of it but if you gotta go on one, Matco will finance literally anyone.
>The hierarchy
It's Owner, Managers, Sales, Service, and waaaaaay down on the bottom is YOU crawling around on the filthy ground as the lowest man on the totem pole. You're the replaceable element in the shop because job turn-around in this field is so high that only fast food can compete against it. Shops figure you'll either sink or swim. You're not worth training or looking after because one day you'll get sick of it and leave just to get replaced by the next person. They'll do this ad-nauseam until that hole is filled with someone who's already everything they need.
>The pay
Bad. One thing you'll notice especially if you end up in a dealership setting is as you park your car in the employee parking zone you'll notice all your co-workers are driving beat the fuck up trucks and old cars while sales and service are all financing higher end brand new cars. I've met one mechanic who drove a nice car in my entire time in this industry and he was the shop foreman who got to pick his own jobs. He only gave himself gravy.
[reddit spacing]
Go do literally anything else. If you have what it takes to make a living with our bullshit pay system working in a hot garage and are smart enough to reprogram modules and chase wires then you got what it takes to make 80k+ a year in literally any other industry. Almost nobody has gotten rich working in this field. It's a trap. Don't fucking fall for it. I'm in the process of getting out after 8 years of my life wasted on this shit. Oh. And if you do decide to go flat rate and work in a dealership? Remember these 3 words. Used Car PDI. Good luck Anon.

How old are you?
If you have some money you can go to a trade school. If you don't you can join the military and be a mechanic.
