Nobody would buy it even if they could... It's a terrible daily driver and it has pretty lackluster off road performance compared to an actual off road toy. Here in Leafland we've been able to import these for a while now yet nobody does.

We can import shit at 15 years. Its's not like these have changed much in 15 years. Also you can import them new but you can't drive them on the streets.

$15,000 +tip
2 door, 4 cylinder, 63 horsepower, 2 seater. It wouldn't sell in the US. As much as "enthusiasts" say they'd show up with a briefcase of cash to buy one, they simply wouldn't sell. Car enthusiasts are some of the lowest IQ people on the roads claiming to want something but when you present them with what they just described, they'll autistically screech its not the same and refuse to put their money where their mouth is.
>yeah I'd buy that, but its not BoF
>I got a handjob from a tranny in one so I refuse to buy it
>only lesbians drive those cars
>it'd be great, but its $10,000 overpriced
sort of bullshit excuses.

You could go buy a Suzuki Samurai or Geo Tracker TODAY but you won't. Why? umm uhh errr its old and used and just not good and its the wrong color!

No it really is much worse which is saying a lot compared to a shitty Jeep. A Wrangler is still a much more usable daily driver.

It took me like 4 minutes to find this pic.
I dump everything into one folder and reset when it gets too big. My DL folder is like 300GB, do not make my mistake. If you want to forum post, at least try to sort your pics somehow.

how does it unironically work with imports in the US?
i always here cars are "illegal" there but like
you cant just go to japan, take a car, bring it home, and drive it?
whats the reason for that?

Bureaucratic faggotry. I'm so fucking sick of corporations fucking shit up for everyone, worldwide. If I was a fucking billionaire I'd try to change things for the better. Or who knows, existing billionaires with a fucking set of balls probably know something I don't about stepping out of your lane against the (status quo)...

the AAMVA is a group of dealerships that provide lists of recommendations to DMVs for what to enforce as policy. They bribe the dmv operators to just follow it blindly (sometimes, most of the time they just follow it blindly cus that's what they have always done lol)
We have a substate controlling our car laws

>In the 80s Mercedes Benz USA (the dealers) got fucking butthurt that ~20% of new MBs sold were being imported from Europe and not through THEM. So, they backed a bill that banned all non-US market vehicles from being legally imported until they became 25 years old and gained "classic" status.
AKA Bureaucratic faggotry under the guise of "protecting the consumer from vehicles not built to US safety regulations" And don't even get me started on the Chicken Tax and CAFE

Agreed, the potential market for one of these in the U.S. has to be absolutely tiny, that's part of why they stopped selling the Samurai .
That being said if they could somehow make a profit on the say, 5000 to 7000 units they may sell in a year in the U.S. (after the post hype sales surge), it would be a fun alternative to a clapped out Samurai or a nigh unobtanium M422 Mite.

>That being said if they could somehow make a profit on the say, 5000 to 7000 units they may sell in a year in the U.S.
Theres the crux of the issue: they might sell 5000 if they had some stupid loophole to come back and sell a tiny truck like this. They might sell 5000 over the first couple years. Thats laughably unprofitable because of the bureaucracy involved with selling a product in the US, let alone a vehicle. Plus tariffs, plus parts support, plus everyone who touches that car before getting to a consumer a commission has to get paid on it. Theres just no profit in cheap vehicles so you must sell a huge volume of them (worldwide) making the US market irrelevant where consumers prefer $50,000+ large vehicles.

Even if they meet the 25 year federal emissions and FMVSS exemptions the states can still play fuck-fuck games. My import has "NON USA STANDARD" stamped on the title because it wasn't federalized by a registered importer to meet FMVSS, despite it legally not being required to.
