Need some anons' opinion on this car/notatruck/ute thing, especially if you have spent time owning one or being behind the wheel of one. I'm currently cross shopping between this and the civic hatchback. There's lot of enthusiast info and opinions about the civic but not so much this. I'm particularly interested in the FWD/CVT Hybrid option. I like the additional utility of the bed since there is definitely stuff I would haul that I would not want inside the interior of my car (ex going to the dump), but I'm worried about that dang CVT since I don't know anything about Ford's history with them. My top priorities are comfort and reliability.

ecoboost is the way to go. the 2.0 is easily one of the best turbo 4 cylinders of our lifetime and a hundred thousand focus st owners will agree. and if you want more power later the afermarket is more than competent. you can do a light tune for 300hp or get a new turbo push 400.

Hybrid Civic is faster than the SI and doesn't use a belt/chain CVT like the infamous ones.
Civic trunk isn't that big/functional because of the hatch shape, but at least it's covered.
Civic can't tow.
Civic hybrid should be more reliable.
Civic will be more comfortable, not sure about the 2nd row seats (never cared).

As a focus owner, yes this is truth. Little engine is built to live off the occasional oil change. Some dude on bitog ran a 20k interval and test results were great. Thing can carry some decent hp/tq for its size.

Owner of a 2023 Hybrid FWD Maverick here. bought it 6 months ago with 2700 miles on the odo.
>I'm worried about that dang CVT
Now that the Maverick has been out for 3+ years, the H50 CVT transmission is known to be very good and no widespread, major, or even notable problems. Ford simply got this drivetrain right. Since 2025, they've made a BEEFIER H55 CVT transmission likely as a test run for Rangers and similarly sized vehicles in the future.
The bed is fantastic; I got one with a power outlet, lights built in, and its got a spray-in bedliner. Its short enough I can reach to the bottom and get whatever I need out of the bottom of the bed (I'm 6' tall). Its even got a little cubby in it I can store tow straps, bungee cords, and anything else that'd fit in about a shoebox built into the bed.
The ecoboost is a decent engine as long as you're not abusing it and taking care of it, but you'll top out at about 30-35mpg. If you're commuting and just using it as a small light duty truck, the hybrid -averages- about 40mpg. Pic related is a casual drive to my GFs house including city and highway driving but I was actively trying to keep it on the electric motor. If I were driving normally it'd likely be closer to about 45mpg like other drives. See pic related
Interior isn't the best, but what the fuck else are you expecting for $30-35k? Its almost cramped like the Focus was because of the overall vehicle's size, but it has so much visibility with the lower-than-car belt line so you never really feel claustrophobic or have bad blind spots. I got the mirrors with the bubble blind spot thing, but there are models with the lane assist light. I never liked those however.
The Hybrid drivetrain is cromulent, but it does make me feel like its a little low on power. If you don't mind having low power and don't normally gun it off the line, again, its cromulent.

As the other anon said, the bed is so fucking useful. No, you're not loading 3 tons of bricks into it but the nasty shit like manure you just will never want inside a cabin.
I got the 4k tow package on mine, regular 2" tow hitch with a 4-pin conenctor so you cannot tow another car safely, but a utility trailer, motorcycle trailer, or small thing? Sure! Don't want to tow? You can still fit a motorcycle, ATV, and full size plywood sheets in the bed with the tailgate down.
Unironically, watch one of Doug Demuro's videos on all the neat shit they put in the truck, stuff like the under-seat organizer is just great and you can see they didn't bother to finish the back of the truck cabin because why would you ever look behind the seats?
If you're tall the front seats are fine, the salesman in training was 6'3" and he was comfortably fitting in the front seat. Maybe not for an 8 hour road trip but going across town he wasn't cramped.
Ride is comfortable-ish. Again, its an inexpensive $30-35k truck on the low end so it'll never get confused for luxury, but its perfectly fine for most people.

Feel free to ask me anything you want to know or I can go snap a pic of something on it. I love the truck. Sometimes I wish I were more financially irresponsible but $30k for my truck versus $48k for an F150 base model (v8) I'm glad I didn't spend 60% more for a commuter and mulch-hauler.

I forgot to mention the 5-button keypad on the door. People who have owned Fords fucking love it. People who have never owned Fords think its really stupid.
As far as fair criticisms go:
Its a little lacking on overall power and fun. Nobody smiles at a 4cyl hybrid making 225 horsepower.
Ford somehow found a way to mildly fuck up the BCM so the radio sometimes makes a strange sound until I turn the car off. Annoyance since it isn't likely to leave me stranded.
I can remote start the truck via the Ford app, but the key fob simply will not do it. The Ford app BTW keeps track of where your truck is so if its stolen or you park it and walk several blocks, the app will help you walk back to it.
The radio isn't great, but if you just need some music its fine.
The AC in mine just turns itself on if its over 75 degrees. Thats mostly fine in the summer but if it knows its hot out and the cabin is 75 because I park in the garage, turn on the recirc.
There is no wireless carplay or andoid auto at least in my 2023: I can bluetooth music and navigation audio, but if I want the map on the screen I must plug it in. Theres 4 USB ports, and 2 power outlets, its fine.

For dumb criticisms:
Its not body on frame which doesn't matter because its lighter, more rust resistant and was never intended to tow or haul very heavy things. 4000lbs towing and 1500lbs in the bed is fine. I wish it could tow more but morons likely scared Ford away from making that happen
Its front wheel drive which doesn't fucking matter. AWD is probably great for snow, ice, or mud. I don't' drive on any of those surfaces so I don't care.
Its a really small truck, even parking next to F150s or F250s, its absolutely dwarfed by them, but I think that makes it easier to park and get through urban areas.
There are strange things Ford did like little cubbies or odd shaped plastic dividers that nobody has any idea what to do with like the hole next to the radio. More storage is okay I guess?

>Civic can't tow.
they can tow 2000lb ez, more if you have a hybrid or manual.
>2nd row seats
Very comfortable for a compact car, even in the 10th gen. 11th gen got even longer and fatter so it is probably even more comfortable.

Knew a guy who had a Maverick, it got recalled about 10 times then it was totalled by a fender bender. If you want a truck-truck and not a hatchback, wait until the Toyota mav equivalent drops

Get a 2025, they basically fixed the majority of issues compared to the 2022+ models. And it comes awd hybrid with the 4k tow package.

Unironically one of my favorite vehicles I've owned. It's not trying to be something it's not.

Everything is 60k now get over it. This has significantly more utility than anything in it's price class.

The appearance is fine. I wax it and keep it clean.

I could swap springs and lower the truck a couple inches but then I'd be scraping and messing up the geometry so it'd be less comfortable.
I do need to tint the windows still but since I'm averaging 400 miles a month, I'm just not in the biggest hurry to spend $600 on tint.

What were you expecting? A wing, truck smoke stack, and a suction cup dildo on the tailgate? Because I'm not gay enough to do all that shit

This sums up the Maverick pretty well.

>>28464458 (OP)
>CVT bad!
I discussed this is another Maverick thread. This vehicle (and a lot of other hybrids) don’t use a CVT. They use an eCVT. These are two entirely different types of transmissions.

A CVT operate with a belt suspended by two pulleys that have variable diameters. An eCVT is a single planetary gear set that acts as a differential with two inputs (the gas engine and the traction motor).

The only thing they have in common is that they’re both continuously variable and are both transmissions. That’s it. That’s where the similarities end. It absolutely boggles the mind why manufacturers list vehicles with eCVT’s as having CVT’s, knowing full well CVT’s have an absolute shit reputation. Even eCVT is too similar; they should have called it SPD (single planetary differential), or something.

Because of how it operates, and the fact that it’s a single gear set, the eCVT is one of the most reliable transmissions on the market. It’s not a weak point of the vehicle, it’s one of its strengths.

They made the Maverick more expensive and uglier. It lost a lot of power and cut a lot of corners on the interior. Yeah, I would wait for the Toyota small truck. The Maverick hybrid uses Toyota technology anyway.
