The interesting thing about this car was being hybrid when it was rare which is no longer the case

It was a supremely average car that a certain type of insufferable person bought to virtue signal about their environmental consciousness before Tesla became a more obnoxious option.

All the fuckin ubers drive them alarmingly poorly.
Having driven a couple, they felt really cheap and had an awful lot of road noise.

Seriously, just look like them, their proportions looks just... off.

I like hybrids (at least in concept - their complexity oftentimes made repairs utter nightmares) b/c they save both money (high fuel efficiency in city driving) and time (no need to recharge), but I don't think there's enough authority in this world that can force me to like a Gen1-3 Prius.

It's not the car, though the car is an appliance.
It's the drivers. Some of the worst drivers on the road are in Priuses (Prii?) and Rav-4's. I don't know what about them causes it or attracts that type of personality, but it does.

People aren't actually into cars. The Prius is a perfect litmus test of this. It's purpose bred to do one thing; drive on as little fuel as possible and be as durable as possible. Even it's shape was constrained by that purpose. It's the homologation special of the daily commute.

Unfortunately, 99% of car dudes are just dickriders looking for a cod piece so this unassuming little car doesn't evoke the same appeal as something like an F40 even though technologically theyre in the same class as engineering wonders.

Cat too easy to steal, to expensive to replace. One cat theft kills the entire fuel savings for the life of the vehicle.

Dangerous levels of cope right now. It's a shitty regular car designed to be as ugly as possible to let everyone know you care about the environment (in 2005).

it actually does “regular car” extremely well. that’s that anon’s point. you don’t care about a car being good at being a car, you would prefer an ugly old beater shitbox if you thought it was “sporty” or a “driver’s car”.

>It's a shitty regular car
No it's probably the best regular car on the planet and typified what the regular car would be 30 years ahead of time. Even now the average regular car is garbage and doesn't compare in terms of reliability and economy.

>Environmentalism
Red team blue team shit. Its a great car. This car saves so much fuel it's like getting a 5-10% pay raise for the average dude on the street, pre tax.

Early gen 3s are known for popping head gaskets
Gen 4s are just plain ugly
Gen 5s look cooler, and have the fun party trick of being faster than shitboxes like the nu-Integra and every single previous-gen BRZ/86, but they turned too "mouse car" which alienated the uber/doordash jeets into driving Corolla/Camry hybrids instead.
Gen 2s are peak and will easily go 500k+ miles, on the other hand.
