It's weird how in the era of waistlines getting taller and taller, two-tone that is designed to break it up is all but absent since the 90s. We kinda had a surrogate of it in the 00s with unpainted plastic bumpers, but now everyone wants the entire car to be a single colour blob. Can we have it back please?

Women hate cars in general. I don't know why we are still selling cars to women. We should stop letting women buy cars.

I've got 2-tone. 2010 impreza outback sport (the next gen became the crosstrek) from before the plastic cladding BS. It's actually kinda ugly, but works only in grey on this car.

That's not really the same as the typical two-tone paint scheme seen a lot in the 70's/80's/90's. That's more of an ecomomy/manufacturing cost thing to save on painting costs in the factory, since you can used on cars with different paint colors. Sort of like how you'd see base model econoboxes with black plastic trim & bumpers which could be used on all the cars regardless of what paint color they were.

>That's more of an ecomomy/manufacturing cost thing to save on painting costs in the factory,
It is not in this case. The parts are actually painted and the paint even goes into the rear doors a little bit. The rear fenders are two different paints. They didn't save money from that. Different colors had different colored 2-tones. Nice try though. Still doesn't look as good as 1 color would.
Also, I've driven one of those Tercels in 4spd, that's a sketchy car.

Two tone paint is minority coded - either gaudy "I just got a settlement check" Maybach or base model plastic cladding

Late 70's-early 80's Corvettes had a lot of different two-tone color combinations available, since that's when the production was moved to the new facility in Bowling Green.

Women buy most of the cars in the US though. Two yone gives them the ick. I've shown my wife two cars back to back with the only difference being paint and she thinks it's a completely different car. Two tone isn't attractive. Simple as.

Two-tone is popular with women in my country, particularly on small cars like Suzukis.

It was also decently popular in the 90's with small sporty coupes and large sedans often coming in two tones. the S13 comes to mind. IIRC its seafoam over pewter color was specifically chosen and marketed to women or at least was always rumored as such. I know its primary buying group was young women here in the US.

I once saw a white Lexus with two tone grey bottom but the front bumper was white. Made it look like it had some stupid huge splitter overbite. Kinda cool.

Good timing. I like 90s tin can noodle chassis shit, but the Tercel took it to the extreme.
The tires were super skinny and little ruts in the road would throw me off. It had almost no power and the whole chassis felt like it was flexing in every turn.
I used to DD uni friends into town in this guy's Tercel, the speedometer showed like 20mph more than you were really doing. It just felt sketchy, like the '80s dodge truck I used to drive with a hole in the floorboard.
I never drove it hard though, wasn't mine.

I like the two tone silverados but always hate seeing how they didn't two tone the tailgate. You can see where it should have it but they didn't bother. Irks me
