Hell no, buy a reliable car like Toyota or something, even if they are boring. You won't be as pissed either if you end up damaging it.

don't spend more than 2k on a car if you're that poor
Do you even have a steady income?

I do have a steady income. I’m just not trying to blow more than 3K on something that’s only purpose is getting me to work and back. No point flexing on a commute car.

Then diesel, manual VW or Suzuki.

If you are in Albania, consider a MB W123 and if you are in Romania look at 15-20 year old Dacias, again, diesel and manual. Noc lue about Bulgaria or ex-Yugo, but if you are in Greece, then you should probably consider a motorbike instead.

It's more of a sour grapes thing. Not saying that no one can afford an old E46, but everyone is just jealous of OP going to buy something he wants while they're not in that position at them moment. So they're trying to talk him out of it

Nope. You'll learn, though, it can be a good experience. How much do you like cars?
To be clear, every single gasket on that car is leaking, you will spend 100 hours getting it straight.

I’m not really into newer cars. I prefer cars from the 1960s and 1970s, especially German and American ones. But I don’t have the money to buy one just yet, plus I couldn’t drive a classic like that every day—it’d be cruel. So I’m looking for a relatively inexpensive car for daily driving instead.

Just take into consideration that your car is banned from entering certain emisssion zones in Western Europe if you ever need to. Also old bmw's are the bread n butter for eastern euros, so do go for it. Some crackhead mechanic will work wonders on that car for 20€ and a beer. That or you wrench yourself if you own a house.

I bought my e91 325i for 3300 euros
an e46 320d is not worth it for 2800, especially in a such riced out condition
go for a 118d/120d if you want a diesel they are cool
