Hi /o/. How often should I expect to replace the battery in my Toyota Camry? I'm looking to buy a used one with 200,000 km on it, but I don't want to deal with replacing the battery within the next 5 years. I need real-world feedback from hybrid Camry owners. Should I be worried about this? Should I just go for a non-hybrid car instead? Thanks!

My aunt has one and had to change the battery after about 7 or 8 years

A local cab firm is still big into them, they are mostly only a couple of miles from base and you can track them leaving the nest.

The extended battery warranty's 10 years or 350k km (~217k mi) in my corner of Yurop. I think it only applies if it's been checked at a dealer or dealer-approved service center once a year, though.
Some old Prius hybrids are supposedly still running on their original battery. I don't think these cars abuse the battery nearly as badly as some EVs.

If it goes bad, you might be able to find a salvaged battery somewhere for around 1k. It's in a compartment under the rear seat in most of these cars, so it often survives even if the car is crashed hard.

Just keep the fan clean. Also hybrid battery replacement isn't as bad as full on EV.

mileage doesn't matter so much, age matters more, since the ones in europe are at worst from 2019, you'll be fine for like 5 years atleast, most likely longer, ask the ukrainian uber driver how old his prius/auris is and if he replaced the battery usually they still run on the original ones

They last a long time, longer than /o/ would have you believe. My mom’s 2011 prius is still on its original hybrid battery with no signs of degradation.

my parents 7 year old hybrid accord still gets significantly better gas mileage than the gas one but it only has ~105k miles on it.

Extreme temperatures kill batteries, just be aware.

Refurbished Toyota hybrid batteries can be +1k
Less charge affects fuel efficiency but apart from works just fine

I'd be more worried about the motor giving out than the battery. My 2007 Camry Hybrid made it to 386753 km. before the motor gave out. Had the battery tested in 2021 and passed with flying colors. They said any hybrid battery that isn't Toyota is straight up garbage.

Depends on the usage.
My 1/2 aunt had a Camry Hybrid go 300,000mi on the original battery.
But she also drove it 75+ miles a day.
Apparently they last longer with consistent usage.

I have 2005 honda ima hybrid with some prehistoric hybrid system and even if batteries fail I can force grid charge them and they will run fine for about a year and then another recharge

While the price point of a Prius battery seems overwhelming, there may be a great deal of solace in the fact that hybrid batteries can last as long as 8 to 15 years or anywhere between 100,000-150,000 miles before having to replace their battery. That being said, we highly recommend routine maintenance to allow you to travel worry-free without significant problems.

The battery in a friend of mine's lexus hybrid wagon lasted a little over 10 years and cost him like $4,000 to replace. I only even know this because it came up in conversation when another friend the transmission in his toyota replaced and it was similarly expensive. Both were commiserating at having to spend a lot of money on their toyotas that they purchased because of the reputation for low cost of ownership.

My man the oil changes & tire rotations alone would cost more over 10 years unless these guys barely drive their cars.

Just replace the tyres that wear out, and they rotate themselves.
