In the life of the average Italian man, at some point thereโ€™s a moment when he will have a Fiat Panda in his hands.

This is my moment.

And the best thing is that it costed me 2500โ‚ฌ only.

Our roads are third world tier, full of potholes and shit, driving a powerful car is a waste of money and mental health since thereโ€™s always traffic, people here drive like crazy shitheads looking at their phone constantly, also if you park your car in public it will be damaged no matter how hard you babysit it.

Itโ€™s not fucking worth it.

Yeah pretty much, shifter boot for example will tear open after a just few months of driving. But you can get a used passenger seat to replace it if that's the only thing bothering you. If you're looking at 4x4s check the rear subframe for rust

Honestly, the car looks like it's in great condition for 2500 euros. Good buy. It's the European equivalent to a Kei car and it is highway legal. People who havent been to Italy dont know how narrow and sketchy some roads can be.

Since this is a Panda thread, how is reliability like for the 169 generation? I'm thinking about picking up a "Climbing" with the 75 HP 1.3 MultiJet. I've read that the 75 HP MJ is the same as the 90 HP version in other cars just de-tuned, so they'll go up to 110 HP with a tune.

Had that exact car kek, but it was over a decade ago
The diesel was detuned to keep the transmission and transfer case alive IIRC, so boosting it may not be that straightforward.
Generally the whole car doesn't have any reserves for modding, if you want to lift it or add bigger tires you're going to run into all kinds of limitations as well. Few minor issues like window regulators and rear shock mounts (can be fixed with parts from another Fiat, I think it was the coupe) and major ones like rusty rear subframes and supply is limited these days. IMHO the best thing is to take it for what it is. It's top heavy, has zero steering feel and limited grip, 70hp with healthy torque was totally adequate for that. In hindsight it was really neat but back in the day I was annoyed by how quickly everything was wearing out. Might be because I mostly have japanese cars

This is exactly the kind of information I needed. Thank you! I'm not looking to go fast, just thought some extra torque would be useful. Makes sense about the transmission and diffs. I don't really want a 4x4, but I travel solo a lot, and some of the places I go would be safer with 4x4. A Panda seemed like a nice compromise of having all wheel traction while still being easy to recover, fuel efficient, and cheap enough to abandon. Would you trust one in the desert?

If I were you i would
>replace the stock plastic sump guard
>rear springs from a 4x4 van, they're stiffer and keep the rear from sagging with all the shit you're bringing along
>exhaust is the lowest point under the car, but it can be modified to sit closer to the underside
Don't know about the different trims, but I don't think there are any significant options to look out for as long as you find one with AC

I've driven through that particular part of the world in a Twingo and in a Peugeot 205. It's definitely doable, but I found myself wanting more than 60 HP (ideally a turbodiesel) and AWD, so here we are.

Thanks for the tip on the van. I pack light, but it's good to know that they have slightly heavier duty springs. One of Panda 4x4s for sale near me is a van. I was also thinking metal sump guard (I've also seen rear diff guards). Thanks for advice on the exhaust. Feeling better about buying a Panda now.

Hello Panda bros, itโ€™s op.

Iโ€™ve been testing her and getting accustomed driving it.

Honestly itโ€™s even better than what I though, small things such as the auto climate control being powerful and fast, the standard radio having actually very good sound for a sub compact car and also the engine is zippy enough, instant reactions even though of course it doesnโ€™t have power basically, but itโ€™s adequate for 99% of the daily drive.

Driving position is a bit awkward but you get used to it.

What I donโ€™t like? The side view mirrors being super small and the lack of sound from the engine, itโ€™s too quiet.

Iโ€™ll have the rear windows tinted (just the dark film not actually tinting the glasses) and maybe Iโ€™m going to buy a sprint filter air filter to let her breath some more.

Would buy again btw, itโ€™s too cute.

The 100 hp ones are unobtanium: rare or tuned/abused to death.

i love driving around with my grandpa's panda. it has bonus style points because it has alpini stickers and an italian flag on the top part of the thrunk so that it's visible from behind.

I'd enjoi a Panda in the south of France with a slender woman, but I certainly wouldn't buy one.

It's funny how FIAT nowadays is more popular in South America than Italy itself.

Down there they get all sorts of models that Italy doesn't get.

As much as I would never personally drive a car that small or with that small of an engine, I have such an appreciation for euros that have enthusiasm for such cars and make do with what they can despite the regulatory hellscape they live under. It was fascinating in a way to see my French coworker nearly shit his pants when I pulled in with the company truck with a 6 liter LS.

My jazz 1.2 has 90hp I drive it in High RPMs and my Honder loves it. Drive a smol, under powered manual shitbox with good tyres at its limit and tell me it's not fun.

I remember driving a few old 800cc and 1.2 suzuki hatches, probably a kei car, it had drum brakes and the manual was ancient ancient, it was so fun, a bit of gravel / off road, so fun, on road too you can make them scream. I'd presume you haven't tried under powered Suzukis.
