A number of convertibles had B-pillars (some even had structural parts of the roof attached to them), it's not their defining feature, because the removable top is and these cars lack it. You can't get "wide-openness" with the entirety of the roof in place, you can't be "smart as a convertible" if you don't have the means to fold or at least to detach the top.
I myself usually drive with top down and windows up, I do have windows in the back, so there's a black weatherstrip where the B-pillar should be. It doesn't detract from the convertible experience, so I don't get this obsession.
