Its an interference engine, this is another timing belt/chain except its not something that just goes, its something that goes in 10-20% of cases on an inline 6 and nukes your fucking engine if it does. And its a massive cunt to fix.

My father died and put 5800$ into a BMW X3 2004, because bankruptcy ruled you could keep a single vehicle worth that much. He died 6 years after bankruptcy, Its sitting on a lot I cant even get scrap yards to pay me over 300 for it when each headlights 300 alone. Its just worthless, because xdrive and the transfer case. If I fix the thing I dont know if the transmissions damaged too on top of the transfer cases nylon gear thats stripped.
And then I find out theres actually reliable inline 6's with no xdrive - but they have this fucking vanos bullshit. Why are BMW so fucking gay.

Vanos is fine most of the failures are from an o ring failing. It’s not catastrophic just makes it run like shit. All variable timing stuff is the weakest portion of any engine.

I watched a IDoCars tear down a BMW engine.
That VANOS sounds like a nightmare.
Everyone says that system is reliable, but all I see are videos on how to fix it online.

VANOS is fine. It's been sorted for 20 years now. This is like crying about VTEC or VVT. Oh but the kikes on 4chan obsessively hate Germans. Death to the jews.

Guys is there a cheaper way to fix the VANOS?

In those things the whole engine is the weakest point, but their variable valve timing isn't helping

This is old german tradition.

During ww2 essentially, Germans tried to make everything too precise. It’s nice if your tank can shoot a dime at 2000 meters, but all it has to do is shoot another tank. And a tank that is just accurate enough to hit another tank is going to have a simpler, more robust gun system than a sniper rifle masquerading as a tank.

Germans will take a water pump that could be simple as fuck and turn it into the most complex retarded bullshit imagineable (that will of course leak very early in the cars life)

german moment. everyone else uses a vane-style phaser that rotates the cam directly.

the K-series had VVT rattle problems in every generation

>>28468627
D, B and F-series never had VVT, only VTEC. lowest power VVT honda engine is the R18A, which makes ~140hp in a tin-can Civic.
