>Ford’s Vice Chair John Lawler recently highlighted this shift at the Bernstein Conference, stating that most consumers no longer care what powers their car. According to Lawler, the engine—once the soul of a vehicle—is no longer a top priority for modern buyers. And while this might sound like sacrilege to die-hard car enthusiasts, the data and trends support his claim.
>Today’s average car buyer is far more interested in digital displays, intuitive infotainment systems, and advanced driver-assistance technologies than in engine specs. This shift isn’t just about electric vehicles replacing internal combustion engines (ICE); it’s about a broader change in lifestyle and priorities.

what went so horribly wrong?

We increased our population by 10% in 4 years, there's never an hour of any day where there is a gap in traffic. Most drivers are old as fuck boomers or fresh off the plane indians, all of them drive 10 under the speed limit. What powers your car doesn't matter when you can't move and when most of the population are soulless bugs.

People used to go driving for fun. Now it’s a miserable chore in most places due to the massive highways, heavy traffic, and aggressive drivers.

0-60 comes in at a couple of seconds or so which was hypercar or motorcycle territory at the turn of the century. Fast 6-60 is boring because any electric pos will beat a petrol car.
Oddly I have no use for an electric car.
